Clearly I’ve been making ’em wrong for the last 15 years :-/
Bottom line, if you’re coming from a progressive source, make a progressive DVD.

[Marcus Moore] “I don’t think the MacPro optimization will be the big deal. If you’ve got a new MacPro, great- but most won’t. “
I agree it won’t be the big deal and I’m hoping there will be new features that address some of the remaining reasons that people give for not using FCPX but Apple have a history of tying features to particular hardware in IOS and I won’t be surprised to see it happen here as well.
for example, if they gave a new FCPX a customisable UI based on the new multi-monitor code in Mavericks and didn’t want to bloat it by also keeping support for the previous code, then Mavericks becomes the minimum requirement for that version of FCPX.
And I’m sure FCPX will continue to run on recent hardware but it’s not too much of a leap to think that there may be some features that are only available if you have dual GPUs, or some other Mac Pro feature. How many current users would have to buy new hardware if they even did something as basic as raising the minimum GPU RAM requirement from 256 to 512mb?
Anyway, time will tell I guess…

if it’s a PAL DVD you’re trying to author then it’s 25p lower field first for interlaced material or you can leave it as 25p progressive if you like.

August 1, 2013 at 12:09 am in reply to: A custom keyboard shortcuts iPad app, to hold us overThis thread inspired me to get my old Contour Shuttle out as well. The FCPX setup in the V3 beta driver seems quite good. Now I have the shuttle to the left, a keyboard and Wacom tablet under the screen, and a trackpad to the right. I’m starting to feel like a real editor now 🙂

I agree. I think there will be features, like proper multi-monitor support and GPU accellerated goodness, that will only be available in Mavericks and when run on a Mac Pro. I won’t be surprised if 10.1 is a new purchase rather than a free upgrade with Mavericks and probably only the more recent Macs (late 2012 onwards?) as the minimum requirement.

Hmm… no 10.0.9 available for me yet. Doesn’t seem to have found it’s way to Australia.
[Edit] or more correctly, the app store has decided I don’t own FCPX and wants me to buy it again..

I’d thought about keeping events in separate bundles but I was constantly having panic attacks because the project would open with offline media because I’d forgotten to mount the right event bundle.
I’ll revisit it once Andreas’ x-files app comes out of beta as that supports defining and mounting the bundles required for a project.

I’m not saying that its not FCPX that’s triggering the crash but if X has been completely removed and reinstalled and it still happens then its not internal corruption within FCPX but an interaction between FCPX and something else.
The crash has only recently started happening and FCPX hasn’t changed in months so logically there’s been a change in something external to X that’s causing a crash now.
The trick is to figure out what that something is. There’s 1001 things it could be so unless you’ve got endless hours to kill, my goto plan is always a clean install & keep my fingers crossed it isn’t hardware.
