5.5 of MC starts to use some of the AJA hardware.

But the Kona cards? nope. (Nor the Black Magic or bluefish cards.) Avid seems to be slowing opening up their communications to non-avid hardware. It’ll be one/two items at a time, and at most a small few that have the greatest flexibility.

Two things.

First, you can’t have a ‘true’ h.264 file with Linear PCM audio. It ought to be AAC audio (which is mp4 audio.)

Second, just send to compressor and pick the youtube preset. It’ll put out a nice looking h.264 file ready to go for vimeo (even though it says youtube.)

You might want to try Avanti (it’s ffmpeg underlying it)

Inexpensive is the problem. There is also GrassValley Procoder (not cheap) – but it’s a powerful encoder on the PC side.

That’s odd. I just did this. No, I mean, right now.
Chose MPEG2, Preset 1080i 29.97 High quality. On the multiplexer I set it to MPEG 2.

I did change the bitrate encode to CBR – just to speed this up.

I did get an XMP file (that’s the metadata) but one MPG file with both audio and video.

Could it be you’re thinking the XMP file is audio?

I’m willing to build a preset and sent it to you to see if it makes a difference..

Check to see if you own Adobe Media Encoder (depends on the suite…) I figure since you own flash, you might own Adobe Media Encoder – meaning you already have a tool that can do this.

Each of these, EACH, can make a difference.
HD? h.264 at 5mb/s ? Yup, that’ll work. Single pass? Strange, but possible. 23.98? Well, if they shot it that way…it means every frame got 20% more information (than if they used the same exact settings at 29.97).
Production values? Well, a soft DOF means easier compression.

I can think of a couple of reasons…

First, do you have different CPUs/Video cards? RAM? FCP?

Second, are you doing anything like a Drop Shadow or Motion blur (both are NEVER RT)

I’d change the 29.97 to match the 23.98 – that way you’ll have everything with the same cadence (it’s always easier to remove frames than add them.) I’d use Compressor – but with the Kona will do a RT frame rate conversion, I’d do that.
