That certainly should not be the case. We’re going to need all your system specs at this point (What version of Premiere Pro, what type computer, os, etc.) Not that I’m sure I can answer the question, but we’ll need this basic info no matter what.

Unfortunately, no. But, you could run Bridge which CAN look at the camera, copy media to a location you pick, import into Premiere Pro for you (and optionally backup from inside of bridge as well.)

You could try ProRes 4444 which has an alpha channel. Then again, so do the DNxHD codecs that go with Avid. both will be significantly smaller than uncompressed…and support alpha channels.

Common distribution codecs like h.264 don’t support an alpha channel.

No significant quality hit – at 29 min. it’s nothing to worry about. I’d stick to the native frame rate and let the hardware do the appropriate decode.

Yes, it’ll take up 20% more space (without any additional quality. It’s the question of where the telecine occurs.

Absolutely. Don’t take my word for it. Take a look at a hollywood dvd during playback (many dvd players can show you info like fps and data rates.0

No advantage. If you flag 23.98 material correctly the DVD player will add pulldown back to 29.97 (necessary for SD)

I don’t think so – although some TVs/DVD players will play a true 23.98 signal for HD.

They’re shot 24 and the playback (the dvd player) should reintegrate that correctly for SD – interlaced with 2 frames telecine’d

Both are fixable. h.264 is far more efficient in encoding.

Install x264. I’m assuming you’re coming from FCP?

Second, bump the keyframe rate to around every 15 frames; that will get you a bit more responsiveness.

I ran the terminal command (as I had before) that walter mentions; Sorenson Pro (any version, as an encoder) doesn’t show up in QuickTime 7 as an exportable setting from QuickTime 7 Player.

Meanwhile, I fired up compressor (4.0.1) and got nothing if I built an export setting for QuickTime.
BUT, if I dragged a movie into compressor’s settings (which builds a preset), it built a preset with Sorenson 3. If I did it from scratch, nothing. So it seems it’s purposely off (as it’s an older legacy codec)

Compressor has better frame controls than QuickTime does directly and a nice, easy, happy preset. I can give you the details on how to do this in QuickTime, but since it’s messy – why?
