If that doesn’t work it means you accidentally drug it off the Finder once without noticing.

Just drag the icon from the desktop onto the Finder sidebar. It will make a new copy on the Finder.

Those programs should be able to instal on an Intel Mac…they just probably won’t run very well. But that’s fine, you only need them to run long enough to be upgraded. I think they’d be up to that task.

So yes, I think the upgrade path is fine for you now and for the future.

Yup, you’ve got the free Flip4Mac player. It gives you a demo of its encoding abilities, but you have to buy it to really use it.

Well, I thought this one goes without saying, but I figured I’d better say it, just in case:

5) Set Apple’s online updater to run once a week and install any security updates that it finds each week.

Nope, nothing new.

And anything out there that’s “old” are thing that you’d have to download and run. Nothing that could catch you by surprise, in other words.

Here’s 4 steps to take:

1) Download wisely. Don’t run mystery programs from untrusted sites.
2) Turn on your Firewall in System Preferences
3) Find the advanced section of the firewall that enables “Stealth Mode” and turn it on
4) Go into Safari preferences and turn OFF the feature that runs downloaded programs automatically

That’s pretty much it. You should be perfecly fine if you follow those 4 rules.

Use either “EXPORT > COMPRESSOR” or export to a quicktime file and then import that into iTunes which you can use to compress.

Which you use depends more on what kind of file you want to compress to and which program you find easier to use. For some things (like AC3 audio) you’ll have to use compressor, but if you want to make an MP3 or AAC you may find you like iTunes better for that task.

Rather than make your own, you should see if someone else already has. I’ve seen screen savers that do this kind of thing, I think.

And in the search bar type “Screen Saver.” The very first one that comes up does something sort of like this. Check that out. But then look at the rest. I’ll bet there are others and you might find something else even closer to what you want.

It sounds like you’re trying to install an OS 9 application which won’t work on an Intel Mac like you have.

That program should be an OS X program, however, so I don’t know what’s happening. Look at the disc in Finder. Does it have 2 different installers? Maybe there’s one for each version. Try them both and see if the other one works.
