If I had a nickle for every “wardrobe malfunction” I caught on tape, I’d be….well I wouldn’t have any money or anything, but I know that would be a story to tell my buddies at the bar if it actually happened!

Well, first it depends on what you’ve got for a computer and connections. Also what kind of Non Linear Software and DVD Authoring Software you have.
An example of what I do is after recording, I have a card reader on my computer that reads High Speed Compact Flash. I take the card that has my footage and I can either put the CF card in the reader and copy from there, or the Sony MRC1K unit I use also has a device that I can connect to the computer using Firewire which transfers the data faster on my computer. If I’ve shot in Raw DV then I have to at least render it in something like a mpg2 so that it will play on a DVD.
If it’s not too special and I don’t have to do much editing, I can get it from camera to DVD from 30-60 minutes provided it’s only about 10 minutes tops. I’ll still compress the video to an Mpeg-2 file and build the DVD with Encore. You have to keep in mind that your computer has to be strong enough to render faster. And each computer is different in rendering times because of different specs. For me to say how long it will take for you is hard to do because I don’t use your computer. Try things out and see what the time frame is with your equipment.
…Lastly, the cheapest and easiest way to get something on a DVD from the camera is to have a DVD recordable Camera. These consumer grade cameras may not provide true 16X9, but it will make it look like it by cutting off some of the picture. If you are pressed for time and money, this is a quick way of doing it since it records directly on to a mini DVD. I for one would not suggest going this route though.

I was curious….Are you looking to buy a camera or rent one? If buying a new camera…what’s your budget? I shoot tapeless in true 16X9 but it is with a Sony HVR-Z5U with the HVR-MRC1K recording unit attached to the back. This way I just plug in a CF card and go. Panasonic has units that do the same thing with P2 cards, but these kind of cameras are a little more pricey. If you can’t afford something like that right now, but you can rent one, that might be the way to go.

Boy, I’m happy that I’m doing an interview at a Veteran’s Hospital in a quiet neighborhood this Sunday! I’ll be able to hear my subject and wont be subject to hearing loss……well unless an old man in a wheelchair comes up and beats me to the ground and holds an air horn up to my ear……Ah crap! I might be safer at an air race now that I think about it, you know how those old men in wheel chairs can be with air horns.

CCD vs CMOS…….
…actually both are pretty equal in terms of end results. CCD has been more developed over time and is now about equal to the technology of CMOS.
A CCD chip works by having a filter (either red, green, or blue) over it. The image passes through the filter and on to the sensor which then takes that image one pixel at a time and sends a signal to the processor. Hence why 3 chips are better than one, so you can have more vivid colors instead of 1 chip trying to sort out all the colors on its own which doesn’t work very well.
A CMOS chip is more heat and energy efficient because it uses less energy on static pixels and its design is very efficient in receiving an image and digitizing the data therefor making it less susceptible to image noise.
Now it may seem that CMOS is a better choice then, but honestly the quality of a CCD chip is now comparable due to the advances in its research.
It’s really what the rest of the camera guts can do that I think makes the difference. Type of lens all the way down to the way it records all has an effect on how well those sensors are being used.
……Ok, I’m taking my geek hat off now and putting it next to my pocket protector that’s laying on top of my dungeon and dragons player manual…

You could make your own though. Two options would be either buying one of those $20 pop up book kits and with a little help from photoshop or illustrator, you can create some print outs that can be pasted in the premade kit. Or you can start from scratch and still have the exact content you need if you create some print outs from photoshop, illustrator, or whatever happens to be your favorite program to use.
….your local craft store or toy store probably also has crayons and colored pencils you can buy to make designs too. The best part is, as long as you don’t copy an existing pop-up book or existing photographs owned by someone else, it’s all copyright free to use!

I get what you are saying, but I learned that tactic elsewhere (something I used to do all the time as a corporate sales recruiter to be exact) because it’s one of many basic courtesy ideas that has been around for a while. Which is what a lot of people are trying to explain here. The book would be more exciting if it had a new spin on it or a different and entirely new way of doing things that would revolutionize the sales world as we know it..
I certainly wouldn’t want to spend 28 days or whatever the course length is, to just do over what I already know. Give me something new that pops!
Now, if you say that this is new stuff that would change the way we get clients, I am certainly interested in buying this book so I can stay ahead of my competition. If it’s another book that has old tactics but might be great for those just starting out and don’t know what to do to make a sale, then just say so. People who already close sales and book clients know this is not for them, but can recommend it to their new co-worker who still can’t sell water to a thirsty man during a drought.

It just seems a lot like a heavy sales pitch. Looking at the reviews on amazon also look like a heavy sales pitch. I could be wrong, and I’m not one to say that it’s bad until I’ve tried it myself, but I start questioning something when I only hear “great reviews” over and over again. Are there any other sources other than amazon that has user reviews for this book? Before I ever consider buying a product, I look at reviews good and bad from multiple sources. Maybe if you like this book so much you can list where else can you buy this book that allows reviews online?

Wow Nick, thanks for the agency advice! Some of the groups actually do expect the client to pay me and I pay the station, but I would never had known about those pitfalls until I experienced it myself unless you mentioned something, so thank you. I also know that, yes, I’ve put a lot of time and effort into my software, camera, and all other aspects except advertisement science. I really agree that it’s important and that I should look at this side of the business. As mentioned before, the broadcasting side of things is new for me but I’m eager to expand my horizons to new, fun, yet challenging work.
Thanks to everyone who has input and pointers, I’ve learned a lot!

I dunno, but I read a book called the little red book of selling and it tried to teach me how to be a good salesman without the feeling that I’m being too pushy. I know my customers appreciate me not being too pushy and they feel like they are talking to someone who is more down to earth and care about solving their needs.
