A friend of mine asked about making a music video using “existing” pop-up books as the main theme. My first reaction was too tell her that all those books with their content/images would be copyrighted and we could not use them without permission.

To me it seems preety staright forward but I just wanted to ask if anybody has had a similar project or issue?

    Thanks,

You’re correct. Pop-up books are covered by the same copyright laws as any other book or work of art. If you get permission, there would be no problem. Maybe you can find a pop-up artist to work with you.

You could make your own though. Two options would be either buying one of those $20 pop up book kits and with a little help from photoshop or illustrator, you can create some print outs that can be pasted in the premade kit. Or you can start from scratch and still have the exact content you need if you create some print outs from photoshop, illustrator, or whatever happens to be your favorite program to use.

….your local craft store or toy store probably also has crayons and colored pencils you can buy to make designs too. The best part is, as long as you don’t copy an existing pop-up book or existing photographs owned by someone else, it’s all copyright free to use!

Good advice. Too many people proceed on what they want to believe instead of what is factual and they suffer for it later.

Yes, and his medicinal affect is so wide reaching and pronounced, that he is also the cure for boredom, as well.

Cure?? I thought he was the cause. Certainly a symptom.

    LOVE Van Morrison.

There are few bad moods that a listen to “Brown Eyed Girl” won’t cure.

Although, the song has been ruined forever for me by the image of Armand Assante dancing to the song wearing rolled-up suit pants and bright red ladies’ pumps in the movie “Fatal Instinct” (funny, check it out).

Have you noticed that Van Morrison is one of those people whom is only and always called by his full name? It’s never just “Van,” or “Morrision,” always “VanMorrison”?

    Jeepers… I’m rambling today.
