Hey Jared,
A site I came across recently that apparently is looking for videographers for legal stuff as well might be something to take a look at.
it looks kinda like a Cow/Linked in thing for legal folk.
Like I said before, I heard they are encouraging Video professionals to sign up as well because of the need of video work in the legal world. Check it out and see if it helps!

..They did mention they have just the top head section of one of those contraptions in one of their warehouses for training. I happen to have a greenscreen too! Could be interesting that way as well!

January 5, 2010 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Followup with project out of town…need suggestions!Allright! Thanks Ron, I totally missed it in the already impressive list of forums! 8-D
Thanks to everyone’s input so far! It’s actually really pumped me up and I’m even more excited to do this. Not to mention, It’s actually got me wondering about other possible video shoots I might go for in the future (I just hope my insurance company doesn’t google my name, find this posting, and raise my rates on me).
As always I take the Cow’s words to heart in these forums and it helps aid me in my final choices on certain things, (like risking my life for an awesome shot). Of course if I stop posting in about a month, You’ll all know it didn’t work out as planned…haha.
I did look at some Helmet Cams though, and wanted to share something I think is kinda cool for a low cost.
After doing some research it looks pretty decent. And for the price, I think it might be worth trying out. Heck if I like it, I’ll post my experience in the new forum Preparing for Extreme Video Jobs
Ahh, the extreme video creative juices are flowing!

Yes, Happy New Year! It has been an upbeat yet challenging year hasn’t it?! I agree with Walter though, brace yourself for 2010 because I think it’s going to be a busy year. For me, Odd years are challenging years and Even years, are great years to do business. Since this Odd year has even had some good business in it, the prophets are saying that 2010 leading into a new decade will prove to be a a good start for us cow members so that we get ready for 2011!
…at least that’s what I got out of the scripture from this Holy Cow Bible. You might have to read it yourself, but I found it in the Book of Bessie 12:46.
Ok that was a bad joke…but I had to do it before the year was out!

Thanks for the advice here! I agree that I shouldn’t feel pressured to give a final price here on the spot an that things could change. I also think it’s wise to avoid an hourly rate. Setting a price for everything also helps the client with the big answer, “How much is this whole thing going to cost and what should we budget for?” Of course I do typically request a deposit up front of anything that runs over $400 dollars that is non refundable which my serious clients never seem to have a problem with. And finally since competition is all over here on the west coast, telling them that we need this, this, and that for travel fees and stuff could also push them into just calling a local business to wherever place they want to shoot. I think it would be best for this situation to have a flat travel rate as part of the itemized contract and just leave it at that.
You guys have been a great deal of help as always. See you in 2010!

I also asked Santa for new lighting equipment, and cool new green screen kit! Let’s see Santa try and get these in a stocking! I’ll leave out extra cookies and milk for him just in case he can do it 🙂

I know it’s a little late, but this seems like a lot of work just for a light saber effect.
Why not use Andrew Kramer’s presets for a light saber instead? It’s free, easy to manage, and can be set up in a matter of seconds.
Here’s the link:

Charles,
I too was debating the same question, but in the end I also picked the at home studio option. As far as the green screen, I just ordered a green screen set up from tubetape.com and have a great portable setup that I can even take to client locations if I see fit. Less stress, and more time I can spend at home with loved ones instead of in an office! Think about what’s most important I would say!

My web designer and I are working on a similar project for my company’s website too. He’s actually incorporating a SQL Database with a Client login page.
I can create a unique username and password for my client which they can then share that information with whomever they choose and can log in to add comments, approve work, or order additional DVD’s, etc… I can log in and see all comments from all my clients, make my own and update the work when it’s available.
I like the way we are building it because it gives our clients more secure access especially if it’s sensitive material they don’t want anyone to see until the project is finished.
