Yes, I actually use After Effects quite often. I use it for all sorts of motion design projects and special effects either for clients or just to experiment with video. Being that I’m on a PC based editing system, I don’t use Final Cut Pro though so I couldn’t tell you about that program.

If you have windows xp, Movie maker comes with it but it was discontinued when windows 7 came out. Now they have Windows Live Movie Maker which can be downloaded for free at:
https://download.live.com/moviemaker
As far as VideoCam Suite is concerned I haven’t used it but I’ve heard a lot of people having problems with their Panasonic consumer grade cameras. But then again, I’m sure by now the makers of this software have released a patch to fix the issues, you might have to go and do a search for an update if you have the same issue. If you have Roxio, I would use that instead of VideoCam.
But for the love of Jebus, don’t use Pinnacle. That program is horrible! If you have about $50 bucks burning in your pocket, AVS has a pretty sweet package that I’ve mentioned on this forum before. You can get a full package with all their little programs for that price and sometimes these programs come in handy. Here’s there website if you wanna take a look. (And for the record, no they aren’t paying me to promote their product. I just have been impressed with it lately for smaller projects)
Good luck on your projects!

Honestly the only cheep way to get Adobe anything for cheap (and keeping it legal) is if you happen to be a student at a collage or something. I’ve seen Creative Suites as low as 80% off the MSRP. Do some searches online and see what you can dig up. I did a quick search and found some download versions less than $300 but I couldn’t begin to tell you how legit it is.
Before you go spending all your money though, have you asked yourself “what features do I need?”
If you have a small consumer grade camera, Premier Pro may be a bit overkill to start. Maybe something less expensive like Sony Vegas or a basic version of Premier. Heck, I used Roxio software along with Windows movie maker for the longest time until I could afford the whole deal.Another Idea is to see if someone is selling their old version of CS3. You never know what kind of deals you can find.

January 17, 2010 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Help in render settings for my deliverable fileOk, so I worked and I worked and I worked…but to no avail! Trying everyone’s suggestions, nothing seemed to fix the problem. I even did searches to see if others had similar problems and I could not find an answer to even their problems…until now!
…In a desperate attempt to get things done, I tried to dynamic link Premiers project file to After Effects thinking that Adobe Media Encoder was just not stable. After adjusting the comp to to display the proper settings, I sent the comp to the render queue. Tried a few different codecs including Cinepak and bam! It worked!
So in short using Encoder works for many encoding processes, but if it seems to be unstable in any of your final outputs, try using the dynamic link through After Effects (which might take longer, but has a higher success rate) to render out the project. While some codecs don’t do well with any of the programs, I would suggest you try this step before you smash your computer with a baseball bat!
Happy Rendering Everyone…finally 🙂

I agree with the Google bit. When was the last time any of you googled your name or business? Like doing an annual credit check, it’s always a good idea to check yourself out on Google from time to time…Lassie would have wanted it that way, right Tim?

Hey Mark,
I’ve used AVS software before with some pretty good results. It’s not too pricey either. For a little bit more, you can get the whole package of software they provide, but here’s the link to the Video Converter that I use.

I do want to point out though that if you decide to go this route, your settings have to be just right otherwise you might not get audio to sync up right or your video might become distorted. Play around with the settings to get the right look for what you need.

[Mark Suszko] “A lot of that is due to Ron and Tim’s Iron Hand and watchful gaze…”
…So is Ron like a Cattle Rancher with a piece of straw in his mouth and Tim is….like…Lassie or something like that?

We believe that it is a complete and radical resetting of the clock, the world economy, a leveling of playing fields, a redistribution of wealth without the propensity in the past to favor America — if anything, we see it not favoring America any longer.
I have to agree with you Ron.
I am one of those little guys (talking size of business here…gosh!). And I’ve noticed that some of the places here are hurting bad in video. They have nice sized studios with all the bells and whistles and the most up to date technology. Yet all over the place, their overhead is killing them now if it hasn’t shot them dead already. But as for me, business is getting better and my expenses are super low.
Before, I would have lost a bid to a client because of my competition, but now it’s turning into a different story! I can offer lower quotes and still come out with almost 100% gross profit.

I guess it kinda depends on what you are using it for Justin. I actually use a Rode Videomic and a Rode NTG-2 for my mic setup. I have used the videomic for on board camera use and boom use and have been impressed with the quality for both considering the price. The NTG-2 has some good studio quality sound too. Of course it also depends on the input plug you require. The Videomic is a 3.5 mini jack and operates on a 9v battery while the NTG-2 is XLR that I use with phantom power but can use a AA battery.
As far as the Stereomic is concerned I look at it as a better version of the built in camera mic on your camera. It has a good sound to it from testing it, but I didn’t like how it picked up more shock sound. I went with the videomic instead because I didn’t notice as much of a difference.

I’ll give it a shot and see what happens. If it works, I’ll post my findings on here for future readers.
