All the information you have given so far indicates that everything should function as you want it to.

A couple more questions, if I may – this is a process of elimination.

How are you navigating the DVD? By that I mean are you letting each chapter play to its end, or are you skipping through them with the Next button on the remote control?

If you are using the Next button in Chapter 2, then that would explain why you are getting the results that you are. If there are no chapter markers in a timeline (other than the first one at the beginning of the timeline), then many DVD players will skip to the next timeline when the Next button is pressed.

I think Encore’s preview will do this as well, but it’s been a long time since I used 1.5, and versions 2 and CS3 fix this issue automatically.

To fix this in 1.5, add a chapter marker at the end of each timeline (Encore may place it up to a half-second away from the end of the timeline). When the Next button is pressed, it will skip to this “dummy” chapter marker and allow the end action of the timeline to execute.

Regardless, though, please burn an RW disc (no coasters that way) and test it a hardware and a software DVD player, if you haven’t done that already.

Try this solution from the Adobe U2U forum.

Symptom:
Transcoding keeps getting to 99% or so, and reverting back to 75% and continuing Ad Infinitum in a seeming never-ending loop.

Problem:
The registry is corrupted.

Solution:
1. Close all programs.
2. Run Regedit.
3. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Adobe -> Common.
4. Delete “Media Cache”.
5. Restart computer.

Also, if you are running Encore version 1.x, then QT ref files are unsupported. Even in later versions you *may* be better off with self-contained .mov file.

But try the registry fix first. As always, be careful in there. You can trash your Windows installation if you change or delete the wrong thing.

My bad on the upgrade – If you have PPro 1.5 you should be able to upgrade to PPro CS3 for $299US. PPro CS3 *includes* Encore CS3.

But you are probably correct – I don’t think upgrading will help much with this problem.

I need to know a couple of things:

1. What is the end action of each timeline set to?

2. What is the link set to for each menu button?

3. Do you have any overrides set for the menu buttons or for the timelines?

Remember that techniques used for Encore 1.5 and 2.0 are, in most cases, still applicable to Encore CS3.

A green line indicates that the motion effects for the slide have been rendered, and a red line indicates that they haven’t. Rendered effects play back smoother than un-rendered effects.

So are you setting the GOPs open or closed? If open, then use closed.

MOV files are like AVI files – they are just format wrappers for different codecs. For example, an AVI file can be DivX, DV, HuffYUV, Cinepak, etc. The choices for MOV files are different, but they are available, including Animation, Sorenson, H.264, MJPEG, etc.

The choice of codec is significant.

You can’t do either of those things exclusively in the Flowchart.

To change the audio in just one timeline, open the Timeline viewer, click on the audio track and press “Delete”. Add the new audio to the timeline.

Or, if you want to change the audio clip globally, select the clip you want to replace in the Project panel and go to File>Replace Asset. Point Encore to the new Audio file.

For the slideshow, select the object in the Flowchart that links to the slideshow. Then use the Properties panel to delete the link to the slideshow. The slideshow will return to the orphan area of the Flowchart.

You can’t link to a loop point in Encore. The solution is a duplicate menu – one that doesn’t contain the 5-second animation.

Hi Terri,

Those are both good answers. Do you know what codec was used? If the codec in the .mov file isn’t to Encore’s liking, then you can end up with problems like the one you’re having.

What version of Encore?

What codec did you use in Avid to export to Quicktime?

Is it a self-contained .mov file, or a reference QT?
