I tested dynamic link with an AE comp, and a QT .mov file with the animation codec, and both showed up in Encore being interpreted with PARs of 1.2 for SD NTSC widescreen footage. Both were 1280×720 square pixel assets.
Try File>Interpret Footage on the .mov file and set the interpretation to square pixels.

Did you put an end action on the last chapter point before the adverts? Don’t do that.
Did you put the adverts in a separate timeline instead of adding them to the original timeline? From your post, it’s not really clear which method you used.

You’re making this too hard.
You don’t make any functional buttons in AE. All you do in AE is composite the graphics that will be part of the button when the menu’s back in Encore.
In the demo clip you posted, you’ve already done that with the text layers.
Back in Encore, create a new button in the Menu viewer. You can use the text tool to type text that matches the text in the AE comp. It can be a shape or a button from the library, or one you create yourself using Photoshop.
If you do the text thing, use the Layers panel to make the text a button by clicking in the empty square next to the text layer. That will make it a button. Then hide the text layer and the button highlight will remain. Position the highlight over the AE text and you’ll be good to go.

Set the loop point to when both text buttons are fully visible on-screen.
Then create a highlight-only button that overlays the text in the AE video.
Highlight-only buttons are regular buttons that have had all of their layers either turned off by poking out the eyeball, or deleted (except the (=1) layer).

I’m not smart enough to figure out how to use AE’s motion tracker when there’s a need for a new reference point. 🙂
All I can do is expound on the technique that I use. Often, I edit just like I used to program in college – by brute force. 😉

At best, even using the very best writable blank media, you can expect a compatibility rate for DVD players of about 80% – 90%.
For higher compatibility rates, you need to have a glass master made and the individual discs pressed from that master, just like Hollywood does. Expect high costs. $$$$
Don’t be overly concerned about the upper/lower field order issue between menus and timelines. That’s not the cause of the player incompatibility reports that you have received.
I recommend Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim blank media.

That’s not how the Menu button on a remote works. It’s just a toggle between a menu and the last timeline played.
That’s not just Encore – that’s any DVD authoring software. And any DVD from any source will behave that way on any standard DVD player.

I’ve never heard of that error. But it does sound like something that a beta version might throw up on the screen. Often in beta versions, the GUI or menu elements to accomplish a particular task are added to the program in advance of the actual feature being implemented.
Is there any chance that this applies to your situation? Did you buy your copy of Encore from a reputable dealer? If they are still in business, you may want to contact them and ask them about the possibility of it being a beta version.

Hi Stephen,
To add a new button, the easiest way is to Alt+Drag an existing button. That duplicates the existing button. Then link the new duplicate button as necessary.
Rather than me send you a menu that works here, it may be better for you to send me a copy of the existing menu that doesn’t work so that I can dissect it.
