Is the thumbnail showing up as grey or black?
Is the thumbnail layer still labeled with the (%) prefix in the Encore Layers panel?

Yes, but it involves the use of several duplicate menus and the auto-activate function.
Even if set up correctly, it still may not behave exactly as you hope it will. And it definitely won’t work on software DVD players.

I’ve never used this feature of Encore, but the transitions may be causing problems.
Do a Save As and work on a copy of the project. Delete the transition links and assets from the project. Then try to set up your chapter index menus again.

Setting the loop point property for a menu will determine when the buttons first become active and visible.
Create a menu that is a duplicate of the main menu except for the intro loop (the part before the buttons become active). Use that duplicate as the link target when returning to the main menu.

If the audio and video are muxed together in a single file, then Encore will transcode the entire thing – video and audio.
That’s why I feel it is essential to only use elementary streams in Encore.
If you aren’t able or willing to do that, then make darn sure the audio won’t need to be transcoded.

This should only be an issue with RW discs. Are you having the problem with R discs?
