Try putting each asset in its own timeline. If there are fades between them like between the intro and Part 1, then the audience will never see the slight pause as the laser seeks from one timeline to the next when the timelines are played back in sequence.
Encore adds chapter markers where 2 assets join together in a timeline. Multiple assets that have AC3 audio can cause issues when placed in single timeline if the audio isn’t set up and encoded just right. Separate timelines would eliminate potential issues surrounding adding multiple assets to a single timeline.

I wasn’t referring to the overrides – you probably won’t ever need those.

So are there 2 timelines, or just one? If only one, then what did you mean by your first statement?

The added chapter is so that if the audience presses the Next button on the remote, it will go to the (invisible) last chapter at the end of the timeline, which will then allow the timeline end action to execute. There is no way to eliminate the creation of this invisible chapter point.
So that begs the question: how have you set up your chapter and/or timeline end actions? Do you have any overrides set?

DVD is 720×480 for NTSC, and 720×576 for PAL. No other frame sizes are allowed.

Seeing as how Windows 7 RC is beta code, and not even the same as the RTM version, and seeing as how CS4 isn’t supported on Windows 7, and seeing as how it works in XP, then I would have to flag Windows 7 as the underlying problem.

How long is the video in the .m2v file? How long did you wait before you decided En was frozen? Does it do the same thing in Vista or XP?

And thanks for buying the book. There’s not really enough difference between CS3 and 2.0 when it comes to authoring DVDs to justify a new book. The big features in CS3 are Blu-ray and Flash.

Can you post a screenshot that contains the Flowchart panel, plus a zoomed-in view of the timeline that shows the area around the marker for chapter 3, plus the Properties panel for chapter 2?

Have you added any chapter end actions at all? If you have, then you probably put the end action on the wrong chapter. Remember, a chapter end action executes when the chapter ends, not when it begins.
So if you want chapter 1 to play and then go back to the menu, you have to set the end action for chapter 1, not chapter 2.
If that’s not the issue, then please outline in more detail exactly what you’ve done to set up your navigation. No matter how you’ve set it up, though, make sure to delete all overrides anywhere in your project. You don’t need them, and they can seriously mess up your navigation if not used exactly right.
