Verbatim DVD+R DL discs are the best choice so far. How old is your dad’s player? His DVD-ROM/burners in his PCs? How old is your player?

My experience:
1) Haven’t seen that. What other things are going on while you are using Encore?
2) Check for overrides manually. Don’t rely on the Check Project utility. It can’t know if you meant to set an override or not.
3) I don’t know what you mean by shimmery transitions and images – what else is going on in your slideshows? Do you have images with sharp horizontal edges or text with serif fonts? There could be interlacing issues involved.
Finally, there have been reports that some ProCoder files are incompatible with Encore 2.0 on a fundamental level. Usually these issues range from green or red macroblocks in the video, to stuttering playback and program freezes. If you are having good luck with ProCoder files, then all I will say is be wary.

Glows, bevels, gradients and other cool Photoshop effects (including feathered edges) will not work for subpicture highlights. The limited color palette for the subpicture will not support them.
You need to create 2 copies of the same menu, one with the glowing graphic displayed like you want and one without. On the menu without the graphic, set the button to auto-activate and link it to the menu with the graphic. Then make the graphic on the duplicate menu a button with transparent highlights for the normal and selected states and link that button to the program content.
Unless you have a motion menu, the illusion will be created for the audience that navigating to the button on the original menu made the glowing graphic button appear.

The easiest way is to drag a new link from the correct project element to the proper target. Another way is to make sure the Properties panel is visible at the same time that the Flowchart panel is visible and then select the element or object that is the origin of the incorrect link in the Flowchart panel. Go to the Properties panel and delete the link target in the Link control.

What transition(s) are you using? I’m not seeing that issue here.
Do you have any more details about the slideshow? Number of slides, file format of the slides, audio yes/no, scaling options, etc.?

Is the amount of “cropping” about 5 – 10%? If so, you are most likely seeing the effect of overscan of the TV.

No. It supplements Encore by performing a task that Encore can’t do yet.

I don’t know if you finish your Encore project first and then bring the DVD folders into eDVD or vice versa. If they have a demo you should try it out.

PS – As an afterthought, is the Z1 footage the only footage giving you trouble? Or does the PD150 footage do the same thing?

Hi Alan,
First, I have to say that I don’t have any experience mixing SD DVCam/DV material with HDV material in the same project. If I were to try that, I would start with the lowest common denominator and create a project that was 720×576 with a PAR of 1.067. Then I would scale the HDV footage to match. My export settings would be DV PAL at the same frame size and PAR. Especially in light of the fact that the end product is to be a PAL DVD, which also has the same frame size and PAR. Interlacing would be set to LFF.
According to the settings you listed, you chose not to do that. If those export settings work best for you, then I give the nod to your experience.
Some individual points:
1. Under Video Basic, you have aspect ratio code set to 4×3. Does that include a PAR of 1.067? It should.
2. For maximum compatibility with Encore, under Video Advanced you should have Picture substructure set to Field instead of Frame.
3. Also to have Procoder play nice with Encore, under Video Advanced again, you should tick Use Closed GOP.Back to you,
