I installed those codec packs because Vegas wouldn’t import my MP4 file, and those were the best solutions I found online.

At first Sony Vegas wouldn’t import the file, so I added the K-Late codec pack, QuickTime, and ffdshow codec. Restarted the computer and Vegas was able to import it. Since I just got this PC last week, it’s too soon to tell if it’s the file that’s the problem, but I’ll go with that and just deal with it. Not sure how the MP4 was created, as it was a file given to me by a relative who hired a videographer for a family party. Thanks for the help.

Good point, haven’t judged the final render. I just rendered as an mpg and judged it there, without burning to DVD yet. That will be the next step, but I’m not there yet. Thanks.

Hi John, I’m brand new to Vegas and video editing in general. I changed the deinterlace method and the result was a video with less blur than before on the motions in the video. So thank you for the advice.
I tried your other advice as well but for my project it ended up looking much better as 32-bit. At 8-bit, the video jumped and the motions were not smooth.

Funny you say that, I planned on getting that plugin from Mike Crash later today. Color Curves did improve the video somewhat last night when I tried it, but the final rendering wasn’t quite as nice as the preview. Thanks for the VASST recommendation, I’ll look into it.

Mike, you’re a life saver! Those settings gave me a better image than anything I’ve tried thus far. The Levels FX is clearly very underrated and I’ll be using it much more often. A million thank-you’s. It’s not perfect, but still far better than anything I’ve been able to achieve thus far, and probably as good as it’s going to get considering the source video. I very much appreciate your help.

Hi Mike, I did attach the photo but this forum has been giving me technical problems. Let’s hope it works this time.
I played with brightness and contrast, but it has been hard to find the proper balance. Color correction has helped a bit, though. Thanks.

Those devices would work well, but with over 30 hours of tape I’d have to convert, and at that price, I’ll probably stick to what I have. The quality of the VHS footage isn’t that bad in mpg format.
I’m more concerned with the ideal settings for this kind of situation, both for project properties and rendering in Vegas. I’ll try to do some trial and error and see what works best. Thanks.

Thank you, Mike. How would you have suggested I convert the DVD footage originally? It’s not too late and I can still re-convert the original media I have.
