  • If you have the time before the project begins, I would highly reccomend the Varicamp 3 day seminar sponsored by hi def expo. I am always sceptical of both the time and the money for seminars, but if you are new to Varicam this is worth every penny. As a matter of fact, after the first hour, I knew I made a great decission.

Also I would strongly suggest you look at the entire work flow and do a test or 2. Lots of confusion out there and you don’t want to assume that vendors are going to be totally in sync with your needs, budget or what you want to do.

The battery warning coming on can be changed in the VTR user menu, but if it is shutting down me guesses your out of juice. Try leaving the battery indicator info in the viewfinder…Vtr menu again vf indicator…on and watch the voltage reading in the upper right of the view finder. I think my shuts off at about 12.8 volts. If the voltage goes that low, time for some new batts

    Julie,
All Varicam is 720p. I can’t relly help with the setting on the deck, but what I can suggest is that you contact either the field producer and/or the dp who were involved in the shoot.
I am a DP and have always realized that those involved with editing are really important to the succes of what I shot.
Especially with HD I am ANNAL about making sure the tapes are marked with the vital information, like frame rate, so that the persons editing with them know what they are dealing with.
Some field producers I’ve worked with are annal like myself and others are very unaware of the language much less the technology involved and the critical need for understanding the workflow. I was recentley told to make sure my HD camera was set up for 16X9. I said OK and asked if they wanted color.
Also, make a DP happy, if you are working with good material in the edit suite, most DP’s would love to hear about it…give them a call or drop an e-mail. I enjoy making the producer and client happy, but when I hesar I made the editor happy it makes my MONTH!

    Cheers

A solution that creates even more questions.
After all of the great advice and suggestions, I recaptured V only in log and capture via the GV-D900 mini dv deck I always use, and pasted that over the bad spots.
One was fine the other was not.
I then recapture V only using a differnt device…the camera it was shot on and was able to fix the second problem.
It seems that something in the V was screwing up the A as suggested by somone earlier.
Thanks for all the ideas, they gave me some options that lead to a fix.

Forgot to mention I tried a mixdown…no luck.
Also, when playing the timeline thru the problem section, the VU meters move, but no audio is coming thru.
