My 2 cents, since Ken Evans post of Oct 7, 2011 just saved me (a) a client, (b) a bundle, (c) a load of grief.

Absolutely nothing wrong with keeping old posts alive with new developments and info which address lingering issues. And many thanks to anyone (listening, Ken?) who takes the time. When in the throes of confusion and searching madly for answers, we don’t care if it comes from an old post or new.

Ken’s easy solution worked like a charm, and I’m now rendering Apple ProRes 4444 with alpha channels out of After Effects, just as a particular client has requested – way to go! (and excellent to not have to purchase FCP X just to get some codecs)

In answer to a couple posts by folks who had problems getting it to work in FCP, I believe it’s because the current QT package needs FCP 7 or above – 6 and below won’t read some of them (I’ve just gotten this impression from some earlier reading while doing a search). Works great out of Premier though (nudge, nudge – since Apple is clearly giving up on their professional software offerings).
