I am very sorry I let her “update” her Entourage (Office 2008) software last year. First thing that happened was it disappeared her email archive and addresses. It has been buggy ever since. Now we are getting a “Database Daemon Fatal Error.” Do you know how to rebuild the database?

I appreciate the input. The person I was trying to find answers for is a new hire at a not for profit. I have passed the bad news along. I have her footage and will probably pro bono edit the thing on one of my FCS edit stations.

Thanks guys. Given the kind of work I do generally–interviews and cutaways-I don’t really have a burning desire for the FCS 3 upgrade, either.

    Hey David,

I haven’t talked to you since back in the M100 days. Hope all is well. I am aware of the PBS big book, though it has been 20 years since I had to worry about it. I don’t have one now. I had engineers, TD’s, tape operators, and a multi million dollar online suite at my disposal way back then. PBS only sent back one of my 13 shows (on Type C one-inch) that time. We had to tweak 2 scenes and re-conform.

I already have a stereo, 5.1, and DTS mix. I was just wondering how I or they integrate the surround mix with my master, which I was hoping to submit on a hard drive.

Frankly, I just got the call from the station last week and I want to try to anticipate what might be needed. They gave me the impression that they wanted to move fast on this.

Tim and Don, thanks for these very detailed and useful posts. Do you recommend stacking the T1 and polarizing filters? I realize that they won’t fit under the lens shade.

The daytime shooting conditions are typical very sunny, requiring use of the eyepiece. I am hoping that I don’t have to do too much rotation of the filter when I go from one side of the stage to the other.

I was looking at a Tiffen kit that has a UV filter as well. I have been living dangerously with the lens exposed to the elements before now. I am going to keep a clear, polorizer, or UV filter on the lens henceforth.

Maybe I should look for a hoodman shade for the lcd screen, too.

Thanks for confirming what I read elsewhere.

I will only be outside when using the polarizing filter. The first issue is linear vs circular filter. I was wondering how sensiitive the filter would be to light angle. I read on another forum that the linear filter caused major color shifts.

Actually, I have just read that we can ONLY use circular filters in the EX-1. My concern is that I am running and gunning and can’t be white balancing more than once every five minutes or so.

December 15, 2009 at 6:43 pm in reply to: EX1 with LETUS35…What Else Do I Need?

Re following the book: I am sure the book is something I would have benefited from if I were willing to follow its advice. In the heat of the moment you tend to think that your project is unique and the stars will line up in your favor. I made lots of friends on my feature project, had a great time at film festivals, lost a lot of money, and had a fair amount of frustration and disappointment. I would do it all again but would benefit from hard lessons learned. I could write a book.

The Letus is for an experienced operator, in my view. I have only used it on a shoot with an experienced Director of Photography and even he had some challenges when the vibrating element decided to go intermittent on us. I was a Director, not an operator on that shoot. So my best advice to you is to get as much experienced help as you can. The images you can get are very cool.

I wish you lots of luck. It quite a ride.

Thanks for all the good advice. I’ll post some cool clips in late January.
