Ah, it would appear that Google, and Mark Spencer, are my friends (sorry Andy, I’ve used your tuts before too though). Found an old tutorial that mentioned the “Shuffle Order” box. Ticked it, problem solved. For some reason my eyes were not seeing it… We all have those days, I’m sure :-).

Well, let me describe the animation in a bit more detail.
Basically I’m creating a large crowd of people out of stick figures (I actually ended up using 1800). They basically look like a giant crowd. They are basically a huge group of “none customers”. So, to animate them turning into customers I was going to do three things.
1) Have them turn another color.
2) Have them bounce up and down like they have jumped
3) Have them wave an arm (might cut that last one.)I just don’t want them to do these things by row, but rather at random. So, somebody in the 14th row, then in 4th, then in 8th, etc etc. Just at random.
If that could work with a particle system that would be great, I just can’t see how that would work.

Can you possibly post some footage for something that looks similar, there are a couple effects that sound vaguely like that one.

Ah, hah! After your last little comment there (showing that libx264 is what I needed to use), I was able to do a little bit of searching and figured out how to fit the libx264 into a .flv. Success! It looks great! Thank you ever so much for your help!

Well, it looks like FFmpeg is using Sorenson Spark to create my .flvs. Is there a way to make it use x264 or even h264? That might solve a lot of the problem right there…

I think I’m confused…
I suppose I should start by asking what program you are using? FFmpeg doesn’t seem to have an option for .f4v (though I haven’t tried doing an .mp4 yet, and then putting that into the flv. I’ll try that.)
Also, I didn’t know there were multiple version of h.264. I guess I need to look up what x264 is, I think I can probably just wiki it.
Yeah, that, and I’ll take a look at MediaInfo to figure that part out as well. I’m assuming that will allow me to see what’s in the container?

I’ve had a somewhat similar problem before. Have you tried clearing your RAM preview? I’ve found that if I do that periodically, it tends to make the RAM preview work better… It’s under Mark > RAM Preview > clear RAM preview.

It’s at the bottom of the Properties tab. Change the timing from constant to variable, then you can control the rate that the video plays at via keyframes. (Meaning, pick when one frame will play, then pick when another frame will play and Motion will figure out when the play all the frames in between.)
I don’t know if you’re using FCP7 or FCPX, but in my opinion, retiming is much easier in FCPX than it is in Motion. But Motion is easier than FCP7 (in my opinion.)

Hmmm, interesting. I keep wondering if I can use Motions rigging for more traditional rigs. Specifically, I keep thinking I might give a go at making a stick figure that I can animate using the rig. If there are boxes to check things on and off…I might be able to make a walking animation… Who knows? Right? Until you try you just don’t know.
Do you folks think it might be possible to make a stick figure with a few animations that are controlled by check boxes?

lol, thanks Mark, I bought your book for Motion 4, so I’m sure the Ripple Training is great as well. It’s actually on my list of things to buy on my next paycheck :-).
Anyone who’s not selling something want to respond ;-).
