This copied all the parameters when I tried. I wanted to copy the color settings from clip A to Clip B. Each time it would copy all the parameters including transform scale. Each time it would copy the 100% from clip A over my 115% scale I had on Clip B.

The only way I could just copy the color settings was to uncheck the boxes as mentioned above.
Did it realy work for you? or did you just have all other parameters the same on the clip you were copying to so it looked like it was only copying the one you wanted????

    SOLVED!

You need to change the item properties in the browser from “upper” to “none”, as well as have your timeline settings set to “none”.
Sounds obvious…. you bet… I’ve tried it a hundred times and it didn’t work – BUT GET THIS – it won’t update your clip already in the timeline, so it appears not to work. You have to delete that clip and drag it down again once changed from the browser.

hope this helps someone out there it’s been killing me.

It’s a real thing – not an operator error.
I’ve tried exporting a whole bunch of different codecs from AFX (1920×1080) and each time I import it into FCP, it’s says it’s interlaced with upper field first.
Now – If I export pro res 422 (HQ) from AFX, then run this through Mpeg Streamclip again as Pro res 422 (HQ) it will then (and only then) import into FCP correctly. (in the fcp browser it says fields: none)
Now it’s not just FCP reporting it in the browser incorrectly – graphics in a timeline with fields set to none will look blocky.

So, the pro res and streamclip solution above is great for me but what if I have to give AFX created graphics to someone else that uses avid – I don’t think pro res would be great for them.

THe only close answer above is for AFX users to export interlaced, and always have an interlaced timeline in FCP – But excuse me but interlacing sucks and looks awful. I don’t want that look, I want progressive 25fps.

I’m hoping someone has an answer!

  • well it’s now 2011, but I think the problem is After effects does something funny. Even though you export something progressive, when you bring it into FCP it thinks it’s interlaced. So if you have NONE set for fields in your FCP timeline. you after effects export is going to looked stepped (like it’s doubled a field to make it work in the non-interlaced timeline). Setting the timeline settings to either upper or lower will make you after effects export look nice again. Only problem is you now have an interlaced timeline – so any FCP transitions etc will be interlaced. (And I hate anything interlaced).

It doesn’t matter what res or codec you export from after effects – it still happens (well I haven’t tried them all)

To fix this issue – I export from After effects and then load it into something like Mpeg streamclip and export it again. (using pro res or animation set to high at both stages means exporting twice shouldn’t matter) but this second export from a different program seems to clear up the interlacing bug.

load the second export into FCP and it should look perfect in your progressive timeline.
