Thanks so much, I’ll give them a look.

I would say, yeah, getting the most out of dslr shooting–including lighting strategies, lens selection–is primarily what I want to learn.

I just discovered today that Richard Harrington’s “From Still to Motion” comes with a 6-hour training on DVD, so that’s probably where I’ll start.

Anything else along those lines you can recommend? Either with a focus on dslr shooting or on lighting (ideally with a focus on digital)?

    thanks.

Ok, great. Playback is what I really care about. I thought the bottleneck might be symptomatic of something else.

    Thanks again.

    Thanks, David.

I’ve been transferring straight from the hard drive on my MacBook Pro. I didn’t think to do a test on that drive, and it’s reading and writing around 60MB/s. Does that seem right, I’m a little new to this. Shouldn’t this be the fastest path?

And I’m glad to hear 20 hours is common. I heard nothing but 10 hours anywhere I looked and thought I might have an issue.

You know, I think that’s what I did. I see now that I exported the files to the source folder alias instead of the export folder. I’m assuming that’s what did it. Whoops.

When I double-click it, it doesn’t retain the effects, and often it’s not even queued up to the right place.

No, it’s DV. I also forgot to mention that the clips also lose their media links in the same temporary way.
