Thanks. So even if I were to miraculously get a successful installation file for PP 2017 I would eventually hit a wall with some Adobe window telling me I can’t go any further because of some ID I have?
I’ll go with the converting of clips to a format that PP can use. But is there a way that I can link several timeline .dv clips to their new formatted files in one go? Or do I have to do this 1 by 1 per clip?

October 4, 2021 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Can I relink multiple converted offline clips in PP all at once?Yes my bad, they are .mp4 files after the convert of course, I should have said that specifically, sorry for forgetting their actual name.
OK so when you say that the names should be exactly the same, do you mean everything in the name BEFORE the ‘.mp4’ converted addition to the name, ie ‘Clip 01.dv’ becomes ‘Clip 01.mp4’.
Or do you mean that the whole name stays the same, where I would rename the new converted clip to be 100% the same as the original, ie ‘Clip 01.dv’ is also ‘Clip 01.dv’ (after I delete ‘.mp4’ and retype it back to ‘.dv’)
Sorry that sounds like a stupid question, I just want to be sure what you literally mean.
I’ll make sure that only ‘File Name’ is ticked this time. – Does all of this mean that all the new converted .mp4 files will relink into the timeline clips all in one go?

So far I’ve used Handbrake to convert .dv to .mov. Not sure what atom does that is different? Does it somehow allow the ‘atom’ project to link to the new converted clips in one go?
(It sucks truly if PP can’t do this ‘link all’ method by itself.)

May 12, 2016 at 2:14 am in reply to: Premiere Pro can’t open DV clips from an exported FCP7 project.Sorry Shane. Yeah, that’s the original path of the files that I’m dealing with.
1. Tape played into imovie and captured there.
2. Exported onto DVD as DV files.
3. DVD DV files put onto external.
4. DV files on external linked to FCP7.They worked with FCP7 fine.
What I did next was to…
take some FCP7 timelines, export them as xml files into Premiere Pro.
But PP isn’t playing any clip that was linked to the DV files as they sit on my external.
Does that help?

What I did to create each clip…
I fed SD tapes into Imovie, that made individual clips. I put those clips onto a DVD, then put all those clips into different folders on my external drive. If that helps?

May 7, 2016 at 3:12 am in reply to: Final Cut Pro 7 has lost all it’s clips. Total Destruction hit!Guys this is a nightmare. Last attempt I can’t open timelines even. I get loads of error messages all over the place.
I cannot play a single clip. All I get are white windows. No sound.
My thumbnails are now disappearing from the bins. Nothing is to be clicked on and played.
It’s like a virus has hit it and is eating away at the program.
I’ve done all there is to trashing preferences, restarting, and opening up the project from the Internal Hard Drive and External Hard Drive.
I don’t think anyone has seen a problem like this before. You can see on my uploaded pic the state my thumbnails are in. Now it is much worse. Again, error messages everywhere that cannot be fathomed out.
Just tell me that there is someone or somewhere where I can take this problem and that it CAN be fixed?! As right now the illogic, unsolveability and extremity of this problem is so unbelievable it is like a bad dream.
Should I buy a new computer? As this FCP has been worsening over time on this machine. Would it even help to try a new computer? As I don’t know what the flippin’ problem is here and there is nothing that is working.
I have my clips backed up on my parents computer and a thumbnail of the project, but that was last updated months ago.
I have saved my project thumbnail onto my laptop, but the last save and replacement of this project was done AFTER the problem hit.
So I don’t know what in the world is going on here. Enough with the preference trashing. That has done absolutely NOTHING, as I suspected it would.
This is a major mysterious problem here people, that is destroying all my work of the last 14 years. If no one here can solve it can you just at least tell me who can?

One dumb thing occoured to me that may be a cause of all this…
When I open the project, I click on the project thumbnail which is on the external HD as well as all the movie clips on there too.
I’ve never opened the project from my Macbook laptop at all.
Not sure if this may help? If opening a saved version of this project in my laptop may improve things?
