Well, we’ve tried a number of things and now the timecode is no longer drifting but when we assemble from 09:58:40;00 (with a picture start of 10 hours) the 2 pop and picture start is off by 2 frames (though the initial insert is accurate). Also we cannot insert accurately… Sorry not to be more specific. The editor knows the details and I’ll ask him Monday.
So it’s getting closer.
What I don’t get is why the timecode counts 60 frames for each second on the sequence but 30 frames for each second on the deck. Is that normal?

We’re having the same problem but trying to mastser to a Panasonic AJ HD1400..

Hi, I’m not in front of the system at this moment but with the configuration suggested by bob above we are getting just about the 500 mb per second as expected. 300 sounds a bit on the slow side.
I’ll try to find a moment to have a closer look at the raid settings for you if the editor takes a break.

When we have had problems like that is has often been due to running out of memory. FCP is very ungraceful when the system gets low on memory. You can check how much free memory is available by running Activity Monitor (in utilities) while the suspect project is open in FCP, and checking the system memory tab. I find having at least 500 megs free is safe.
Usually that problem does not occur on small projects.. but it is possible if you have put a lot of stuff in your project that you don’t need, even though your program is short. For example if you have a large music library it is tempting to put it in your project for easy access but that will inflate your project size a lot.. likewise if you make multiple copies of your sequence.
We had an editor who was making multiple copies of a one hour show sequence each day and popping them in a bin. After a couple of weeks the project was a monster. Took 10 minutes just to load. You can’t do that. If you have a music library or similar it is better to get the elements right from the finder as you work.
How much system memory are you running? I think 2 gigs is really the absolute minimum for smooth operation of FCP these days.. 4 or more is better. If you are editing a one hour program 2 gigs is not really enough.

Tania, I wonder where you got the idea that the Blackmagic card is an “accelerator” … it is basically an I/O card.. that is all. Did your dealer tell you that it accelerates After Effects? That is not correct.

Yes sorry I don’t seem to be too literate today.. it’s the first one. We open log and capture.. everything looks blueish (but only on the Panasonic, not in Final Cut’s log and capture window.) But close the window and play it back (or play anything back) and it looks fine. Thanks for the tips on the other settings. I’ll check them when I get back to the office.
Also, it’s not a blue tint exactly but some kind of color phase shift as there are also strong reds .. just not on the right parts of the image.

Sorry for the multiple posts.. just to be totally clear.. The panasonic monitor works normally and fine when the capture window is closed. .. Perhaps I have the sync connected wrong? HMM. I’ll check when I get back to the office. Everything should be getting sync from an AJA Gen 10.
