HD-SDI uses professional locking connectors and inexpensive, widely available cable. HDMI has consumer oriented, non-locking plugs and cables will actually be more expensive if you need to make a longer run. I have the HDMI only version of the DP6 from SmallHD and it works great with the output of the Panasonic GH2. I’ve actually never had a camera that outputs SDI, but my Kona card does output HD-SDI to my Panasonic broadcast monitor. Basically, anything with HD-SDI is going to be more expensive, but probably more robust. You have to decide whether or not it is worth it for you.

For $1,500 you can get a Panasonic GH2 with 14-140 lens. I’m loving mine.

You’ll love the GH2 –sweet cam. Sorry, I don’t know anything about Canon glass. I already had Nikkor lenses, so I picked up a Voigtlander F adapter. Don’t forget about the crop factor when buying your lenses.

I use the Manfrotto 323 RC2 Quick Release on my DSLR rig:

I use them to quickly attach my GH2, monitor & JuicedLink XLR box. I also have one attached to the quick release for my Cartoni tripod head. Makes it really easy to assemble/disassemble my handheld rig and I can pull the GH2 off in a second to use it directly on the tripod if needed.

I haven’t use a D7000, but… with my Panasonic GH2 the recording length is only limited by the size of my memory card. The LCD does shift a bit when going into recording, but with a histogram that stays on screen all the time, it’s not a big issue.
