[Bipop Upreti] “and in general how would i know what lenses to buy for a DOF adaptor. the adaptor that i have is Letus 35 extreme.”
Hi Bipop,
I have a Letus 35 Extreme with a Nikon mount and here are the lenses I use:
Nikkor 35mm f2
Nikkor 50mm f1.4
Nikkor 85mm f2These all work great with the Letus Extreme. I got one online and the others at a local camera repair shop. As I recall, prices were in the $150––$200 range.

Hi Todd,
I’m no expert, but I have a few ideas that will help. YouTube. Get a YouTube account and upload your work there. Write keyword rich descriptions including the url to link back to your website. Adding a blog to your site can give the search engines more good material to “read”. You can embed the YouTube videos there along with interesting notes about the production process. The nice thing about YouTube is the tools they have for tracking views. You can easily go in and see how many views of a given video have come from your blog. Of course adding your work to the Cow’s demo section is great too––more opportunity for keyword rich descriptions. Trading links with your ad agency clients is another way to improve SEO. The more links other sites have to yours, the better. In my experience, there is not any one thing you can do to make a huge difference––it requires a bunch of little things all working together.

December 11, 2009 at 5:58 pm in reply to: Letus for HPX170, Optimization kit relevant? You can get great footage with the Elite, you’re just limited to a shallower depth of field. Maybe you can cancel the order. Don’t do it on my recommendation alone, though.

December 10, 2009 at 6:36 pm in reply to: Letus for HPX170, Optimization kit relevant?I’ve been using my HVX200 w/ Letus Extreme for two years now… without an optimization kit. No it’s not perfectly sharp from edge to edge, but in my mind, a lens adapter is not about razor sharp footage, it’s about artsy, organic looking footage. However, if I were going to buy a lens adapter today, and I only had a couple grand to spend, I would get the Redrock Micro M2Encore. It utilizes a spinning ground glass design and will give you much greater fstop/depth of field flexibility. With the Letus Extreme/Elite, once you hit f5, you are seeing grain from the ground glass.

But never having to change another tree bulb? PRICELESS!!!!!”
I TOTALLY should have done LED’s this year! We’ve got our Christmas tree on a turntable and in order to power the lights without plugging in, I rigged a 12v golf cart battery to an inverter. Problem is, with 500 incandescent bulbs, she only runs for a couple of hours before needing a recharge. With LED lights, she’d probably go all night… hmmm, where did you pick yours up, Mark?

[Gerry Bayne] “Most production houses use FCP I’m finding and I’d like to train in what is most marketable as well.”
I think it’s hard to go wrong learning FCP. A few years back I decided I needed to learn FCP since it seemed much more ubiquitous than the other NLE’s I had learned. I bought some training books and spent a week going through the lessons. At the end of the week I took the Apple Pro Certification Exam and passed. The examiner’s jaw hit the floor when I told him I had only been using FCP for a week. I put my certification on my resume and shortly thereafter got called in to an interview through a craigslist ad. I got the job and was hired as a freelance editor at an ad agency. Oddly enough, a few months later, they switched to Premiere/Axio systems and it was easy enough to make the transition. Eighteen months later, I was making $50 an hour and they even offered me a full time job @ $70k (which I turned down). Anyway, I think it was well worth my time, and a little money, to learn FCP.

[Gerry Bayne] “I’ve been using Sony Vegas but need to move to the next step up.”
What is it that you need to do that Vegas can’t do?

Using a portable audio mixer would make it easier. Just feed both wireless receivers into the mixer and the output into your camera. Then you can mute/switch/adjust your sources as needed.
