Good Points. I’ll keep that in my pocket when discussing my rates. However. Does anyone know what the average going rate is in LA for what I do?

Actually, I’d be doing both. Editing and probably logo treatments/thirds etc… When dealing with short commercials, There would be more Motion Graphics work so that would be a factor as well.

Vince, thanks for the input. Perhaps it would of been better if I worded my question like this – “What’s the average going rate for someone of my skill set and experience in the LA area?”

Well there must be something wrong with my system, because I don’t see it??? Any chance that’s a setting in the user preferences?

  • What codec are you capturing in? If your capturing into mp2 or mp4 which seems to be the situation for some of these home Hd cams that record to hard drives, I wouldn’t just because the mp files are already compressed. However if your capturing to p2 cards or tape, then I would definitely change the resolution. It also depends on your delivery. Are you going to an h264 flash video for the web? If so then if your recording with the mp4 codec, I wouldn’t change the settings. However, if your recording to something like flash 6 I don’t think the mp4 codec will make much of an impact when you compress it. Again, it all depends on how your capturing imho.

I actually figured it out. After you select all the files you want in the media bin, you have to drag it to the Canvas and drop it on the purple “Superimpose” option. That will lay the files out on top of each other. If anyone knows a hot-key, I’m sure it would be helpful for the future.
