You can open in QuickTime pro, and go to movie properties…you’ll see the timecode as a track, like audio and video…just delete it from there. As far as a bulk process…?
Maybe u could digitize without deck control? That would probably give u 00:00:00:00 starting tc

There was a discussion going on over in the Adobe After Effects forum regarding this exact conversation (h264 in a Flash playback container). Todd Kopriva had some good links…having trouble finding it this morning… 🙂

If you use Quicktime Pro, you can set in and out points…and edit – trim to selection.
Then (this is important) you SAVE AS and it will downscale your file, using the same video and audio attributes without re-compressing. If you simply save, the file size will be the same.

Hey Becky, don’t feel bad posting…there is a TON to learn here and it’s a great discussion board, scratch that…it’s a FANTASTIC discussion board! I only get bothered when I see the EXACT same question over and over (ie-why can’t I edit footage from my Canon 5D) 🙂 I’ve certainly re-posted…and asked dumb questions, but that’s how we all get better. I don’t think anyone here will chastise you for that. (Although Dave LaRonde will probably make some sarcastic remarks…but he’s crazy anyway! 🙂
On to your issue. A couple questions that I didn’t read about your setup in your post. —
1) What version of FCP? Is it an upgrade or fresh install?
2) Snow Leopard? Again, upgrade or fresh install?
3) Did you trash prefs using an app like “preference manager” or do it manually?
3) Have you tried OS – repair permissions? Or ran a program like Disk Warrior?
4) Have you tried a similar compression in Compressor, it came with Final Cut Suite…or Adobe Media Encoder if you have the Adobe suite? It may help to determine if it is the source or not.

Does anyone know why/if Windows media player can or will play h264? Seems like a pretty standard file type…and Windows media player is a “media player” right?

A couple thoughts from me on this. I have the luxury of working with most people who are on macs, so h264 plays natively for most everyone I deal with. The others in our company who are on PC, I suggest VLC as a playback software. It’s free, and fast. Quicktime on a PC takes longer to open than VLC and I like the VLC interface better.
If you end up doing mostly h264, you should look at Matrox compressHD card…its truly a game changer in terms of spitting out files.

That is the only way, although you can automate and set up the length of the still frame duration to be exactly what you want.

Have you looked into the Matrox product line? For towers, they make a PCI card – CompressHD…it’s super fast encoding to h264 and looks great.
For the Laptop…they have the same functionality built into their I/O devices. Cheapest would be an MXO2 mini with Max.
It’s an h264 hardware accelerator, I use it, and love it…it spoils you very quickly.
