Thanks. I was having difficulty because the group I was trying to corner pin was super tall (it was a graphic that had to scroll up during the animation). When I tried to corner pin it, every time I moved one corner, the other corners would shift also. After much trial and error, I decided to time out and render the scrolling animation and then corner pin that normal frame sized movie in my final comp. That way corner pinning worked as usual (even though I loose the ability to fine tune the scrolling animation). Anyway, live and learn.

We shoot basically all of our own footage (commercial, corporate, etc.). Sony F55. FCPX works brilliantly with 4K XAVC footage.

FCPX is only used in short-form pieces…

    It’s being used in documentaries…

Well, nobody cuts features with it…

It was used in these features…

Well, they could have been cut with any NLE…

I guess you’re right, time to sign up for CC.

It checks all of the boxes of the NLE I already use… sold.

Personally, I like the fact that Apple makes tons of money on other products. If they only made editing software (and were in Avid’s financial situation) I would be much more concerned about the future of their NLE.

1 hour of DVCpro50 should be just over 30Gb based on the info I found here:

    https://pro-av.panasonic.net/en/sales_o/broch_pdf/pro_archive_system_e.pdf

They say a 50Gb disc can hold 1 hour & 40 minutes of footage in that format.

  • Just don’t fall into the trap of assuming RAID5 is bullet proof. A few years ago we had an external (4 drive) RAID set at RAID5 and 2 drives failed. We lost everything. Whatever setup you end up with, in a professional setup it pays to keep additional backups of your raw footage and daily backups of your projects.

I shoot with a Sony F55 and it’s dead silent. It does 4K internally (XAVC 422) or to an add on recorder (Raw). I love it for interviews!

We’ve had great luck with the new LaCie external Blu-ray burner. It connects via firewire and can be moved between machines easily.

    Cheers!
