my error was that i still had the pen tool selected, i needed the selection tool

nevermind all, i found out, it is definitely the mask path stopwatch, i can swear i messed with it before and it wasnt recording my keyframes,

lesson learned-keep fooling around with buttons and try things over again.

im sure i will find out someday why there is that toggle button in AE for a specific purpose i might need someday

Thank you very much, is that button just for a preview? meaning, if i worked in AE with it the pixel aspect ratio toggled to square would it export as it looks in the preview window?
