Barry is correct about the camera being able to Host a Firewire Drive. Keep in mind that the Drive doesn’t need to be any larger than 120 GB. The camera will segregate the Drive just as the P2 Store would do, it will see in in 8 GB chunks or 15 small drives. It will see it like a Big P2 Store. The good news is that these drives are pretty cheap.

The P2 Store can work with Mac now, at the time of its introductipon, it didn’t but it does today. Yes you can hook up the camera and download from there or for the P2 drive.

However if you shoot at 720p/24 YOU GET ABOUT 2.5 MINUTES PER GIG. So the 8 gig card gives you 20 minutes. It is a signitificant benefit to think about.

It will be available in March, and will be available from the very same guys that sell you the camera. Don’t bug them yet as there is no pre-order on them yet.

If you want P2 support you will have to upgrade to FCP 5.0.

And yest the BT-LH1700 is sweet, don’t forget the embedded audio card for single cable connection on SDI and HDSDI.

Go to the Panasonic website, go to support, go find a service center, enter your camera model number and your zipcode, when the listings come up call one of them and talk the problem through. The screws are not expensive and should be easy to get.

Standard Def P2 is alive and doing outstandingly well. We just had a record month in sales between the SPX800 and the new SPC700.

Actually the transfer on each SD card is 20MB, that’s Bytes not bits, and the P2 in total because of the Raid is 640Mbs.
