I also forgot to mention that I have a background script that automatically unlocks any file dropped in my trash.”Actually all one has to do to unlock this last txt file is to Control I to ganin info and uncheck the lock file choice and then put it in the trash and empty the trash.
I learned a lot yesterday. 😉

Load the footage into a computer and output from the NLE timeline or use the camera.

It is done by service in much the same way, the pixels are masked just as they are in the Varicam or any other camera in the industry.

The connection is a loose one so that it is not inadvertantly broken off. Don’t move the camera as much or if you are attaching it to a moving jib. then secure the end of the cable near the camera so that that end of the cable does not have the opportunity to move.

Okay kids,
Round two, and good news. Toke thanks for the clue. I wouldn’t have thought that emptying the trash while the card was in the computer would do the trick but it did. The Mac sees the files as locked so you will have to force the delete, but we played with it and we got the computer to release the data. Then took the card over to the camera and it saw an empty card. So David, as Gary said, he just deletes and then re-records.
But then Gary is a lot more MAC savvy then I and it probably didn’t occur to him that I wouldn’t know of a forced delete.
Man I love this business, you learn something new every day!

While I am not the expert in editing, right now I am having to keep track of files and such so the fact that they all don’t come in at the same time is fine for me. I am loading then=m onto a hard drive first and cataloging them by cards there. I have the project folder, say Karate, and then the 2 cards that have that footage on them are stored as Card 1 and Card 2. Then when I wish to import I will find that folder and then access the sub folders and then import the contents.
Once it hits the FCP, it goes back to normal logic inside the NLE.
So that is my coping method so far, I have about 500 GBs of footage and edited footage to track. Certainly not monumental but enough to give me an initial falvor for how i would go about keeping things together. This way you could actually keep your FCP file in the same folder.

On the Mac, you should have the write protect switch on the P2 card in the Protect position. It should mount up easily.

It was on the card, not even in the MAC, but in the camera where it was showing no space to record. Gary and I are having a background conversation and we will come back to this later today or maybe tomorrow after a few more trials.

Hi all,
I just tried this as many ways as is possible, and the card remembers how much time was recorded on it and it does not fully erase when I delete the clips.
I just recorded 2 minutes of my living room. I went over to the MAC, I deleted the clip. I noticed that the available storage room had not changed however. Although nothing appeared to be on the card, when reinserting back into the camera, I only had 8 minutes of time left.
I took the card put it into my PC. I opened up the P2 viewer, the card appeared to be empty, but the storage capacity of my card was still not full. I then looked at the card with Windows Explorer, and saw that the contents folder was still there, but empty. I tried to delete, but it would not. So I put it into the camera. The camera said I only had 8 minutes of time(I was working in 720/24PN)yet it would not display any thumbnails.
I then formatted the card, it gave me my full 10 minutes back.
Interestingly enough, the formatting on the camera seems to take less time than that on the computer, less than 6 seconds as compared to just under a minute.

Hi David,
There is work in progress that I cannot disclose that will likely do this. The realityis that you will have to reformat your card in the camera after moving the data off of the card. I just tried, I had to reformat, it took 6 seconds all total, but I had to do it.

The difference is that in HDTV the monitors are able to resolve the resolution, unlike SD.
