For what purpose is the export?

If it’s web, you just need to encode a Flash swf file, drop it into an html page with a cut out the same size as your export and load them both onto your server. Plays automatically. Best for broadband, not dial-up.

  • Squeeze 4.3 with embedded Flip for Mac works just fine for me. Easy to export variable wmv bitrates. I’m on a dual processor G5 with 4G RAM.

Sorenson Squeeze is a great compressor however it doesn’t recognize QuickTime reference movies. You’ll need to export it as a .mov or.dv

  • Thanks for the update on Squeeze. When I called them last week, they said their Mac 4.2 version would be released this week. Glad to hear that 4.3 is imminent.

  • Craig:

In my focus testing and field research, limited as it may be, I have found that wmv responds differently to PC users according to their browser and Windows OS. It’s been my experience that wmv is not consistent over the multiple Windows OS platforms and often requires plug-ins which many people have no idea how to install.

I agree with you about QuickTime; I only offer it as a paen to Mac users (of which I am one). Flash, on the other hand, seems to have universal accessability and I use it as my first choice.

  • I am very satisifed with Sorenson Squeeze 4.1 and anxiously await the 4.2 upgrade for the Mac. I also use Flip4Mac for Windows encoding, however I conduct most of my compressions in Flash and QuickTime. I only use wmv as a throwaway for people to download who aren’t on high speed.

I don’t doubt this Charles. But as I lost countless hours in frustration of dealing with this issue, I automatically “Save As” with every working compression that I keep.
I now use Squeeze 4 and Flip for Mac which I find are very fine products.

I produce videos exclusively for the web.
