A resounding yes. They are developing a high resolution ipad now in 2k.
With all the jibber jabber in the reactions, a lot of it stems for the *final* realization that Apple is on a *solid* path to iOS and leaving everything else behind. We have been joking, being cynical and speculating this for a long time. This is just the smoking gun for the 54% market share in broadcasting and film they have chosen to leave out in the cold in their path to iWorld domination.
“Target consumer” has been thrown around a lot. There is no “target”, they want it universal. Give it enough features so “pros” can still utilize it in some degree and update accordingly, but make it so dumbed down and iOS friendly so my dog can take a picture, ichat and cut a video…
Problem is, and I truly believe this now. They underestimated the backlash. But your question answers itself in the product they just unleashed, and the developments for the next generation iPad

I don’t feel like an editor in this timeline. I feel like a monkey. I don’t want to be a monkey. I want to work how I want…I’ve only been doing this for 10 years, but I kinda thought that was usually all an editor needed…customization and control.
I’m surprised to see even one editor defend this wretched “timeline”. After 3 days with it. I want to punch it in the face. And punch myself for pounding away at it listening to a lot in the “timeline” defense crowd saying how much I’ll love it and I just don’t get it yet…

Sort of off topic, but this:
the castration of the MacBook Pro was the completion of it.
I have a 2010 i7 15 and it’s screaming fast. I’m comping in 4.5k and grading in decent fps at full rez on fw800.
Sure the ports leave much to be desired. But did they kill the Macbook Pro? Or is the Macbook Pro some kind of voodoo taboo horrid machine to work on? The one that I’ve been doing all this great work on within the last year…
I’ll use the google, I haven’t kept up on it’s future, but what am I missing here?

I could go through a list of what you mean here. In fact, there is a blog post spelling out exactly that…
And what did it contain? A complete pile of dismissives, an entire page of white noise…
Chestnuts like: We have had nothing taken away from us, we still have 7
What is that in response to? During this transition, 7 was yanked off the shelves, for many here the prokit updater was moved (it may have returned or miscommunication occurred) without warning.
Response again: Nothing was taken away from you, you still have 7 quit your whining!

I could go on. I’d agree with you if that’s what I saw happening, but what IS happening is that “balance” is patronizing, name calling, selective hearing and completely dismissive…
I’m not trying to find balance, I’m trying to find reality. This is the problem in so much in life. People fight so hard against reality, create this false sense of balance, further pushing the arguments into the gutter where no one can come to an agreement or civil discussion…

Again, this is the “I just don’t get it” argument.
The tangible reasons for not liking or embracing this product is no mystery. It’s also, for the most part, completely dismissed. And again, for the most part, dismissed as “fear”…
It’s simply not true. I understand and appreciate your perspective, but a lot of what is being said here is dismissive and not appreciating those tangible opinions that have been vocal not to embrace it…
So far, we have been called chicken littles, unhinged, over-reactors, babies, spoiled and on and on…
And I will take exception to this playground mentality until it ends. I will agree that the customization that 7 offered may have spoiled us, but at the same time, it’s no less legitimate to suggest losing that is a step backwards for many here. Including myself.

Some feel the foundation is too rigid and want to be able to continue editing with the feel and customization they are not only used to, but have grown to appreciate.
That doesn’t automatically equate to fear. Why is it, if we don’t automatically like a product, we just don’t “get it”…
If we don’t like the changes, we don’t like the changes. Most have been quite vocal why, but it seems to be dismissed continually in blogs and threads like this as if we are children whining over spilled milk…
My only observation here can conclude, maybe it’s like politics, the minority opinion can be the most vocal and that translates into majority opinion…I think we should be careful here and stop lumping everyone together (I can be guilty of that too) and respond accordingly.
It’s good to address the changes that are moved where some might feel its gone, but it’s also good to look at it’s inadequacies and “hope” those are addressed.
We can work together on these things. I see a lot of this being too divisive…

Then you have something in common with the majority of people who have not embraced X. It’s not about fear. It’s about reality. It’s about practicality. It’s about a tool that didn’t deliver on it’s promise now and some very untenable moves towards 7.
This “fear” mantra is getting way more over-blown than any of the misinformation getting bandied around about what X can and can’t do…
Doesn’t wash. I’ve played with it too, doesn’t do what I need it to. I have no expectations, I can’t “hope” the things I do rely on will be put in. Moving on. But I’ll voice my displeasure in the product all I want…
