Hey Kevin.
Off topic. Adobe has done a great job with After Effects and Premiere. For comping, I trained on Nuke and never thought I’d ever go back to layering but CS5 is fast and has a lot of great features. And you know it’s because they listened to their users 🙂

This I can see changing. I remember a version of Premiere coming out (2.0?) with locked windows you could only resize while pushing other windows smaller…made it very frustrating and was removed in the next update I believe…

Summed up my feelings too. To me, it really takes away all the things that kept me using Final Cut 7. The customization made it feel like we were soul mates. I go elsewhere and I always felt constrained to some degree. When I open up X and play around, immediately I get the sense that we were just spoiled with 6/7…and that feels so wrong.
Defenders here say it makes sense the way it’s laid out. Like you, I don’t care, I want to be able to create chaos…I know it’s been said to death, but it really feels like they don’t know how today’s editors work…

Same could be said for those you seem to disparage here. There really is no need for it at all.
People have raised concerns, frustrations, workarounds, hope, and many other human reactions to a major shift to things they have come to depend on. It isn’t a game for some here, there are investments and a decade of being part of the reason of it’s success…
Plus, this is a discussion forum, not a playground. I have called people apologists and water carriers but have also included that it is admirable and appreciate their input
/optimism whenever possible…Does that sound “over the top” and I have been one of it’s harshest critics. I think your thread here is over-reaching and is more about arguing for arguments sake.
We’re not robots. And there’s no need for this kind of vilification towards their reactions which are more often than not, pretty universal, calm, but disappointed they have to wait and stay where they are even though that tool was yanked off the shelf without warning making this transition very untenable and insecure at best and further an Apple CSR telling one of our kin here they should go elsewhere for their professional needs….kind of compounding this don’tcha think?
Anyways, that’s it that’s all…no need to start suggesting they are unhinged by these developments

It’s not like they released a product even similar…yes they can build on it, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t even have in the architecture to play well with others…
I think the “knee-jerk” reactions some have here are actually misconstrued. They aren’t the ones in denial lol. They see not what they want to see, but how it is and if you are looking at it objectively, how can you really see it any other way…again, it has no timeline! lol

1) If full support for your editing and finishing tool has been eliminated, would it be wise to continue working on big projects carrying forward that risk? Some of us will but there are other alternatives out there now very capable of doing all the things FCS3 did and more.
2) I think I can speak for a lot of people here who have been waiting patiently to move towards an NLE with more guts. This is not it, the patience has worn thin, gotta make a choice. The price point alone as well makes it easy. We can always return
3) I think a lot of trust was blown here. Pulling support and sales of FCS3 without any buffer to transition knowing full well the limitations is leaving a lot I’m sure soured. I’m stunned to be honest. We all know the counter-arguments, thanks apologists, yes it’s typical to pull old product, but not like this. And without ANY warning…*knowing* X’s limitations…
For myself, this is not what I want to do, Apple has just made my choice easy though. I look forward to them improving it, but I don’t see how it can recover some of the things lost…it has no effin timeline! lol

I’ve played around with it too. I have CS5 and plenty of red of tinker with. I just haven’t conformed it to a grading system. I only have Color and have not read much about taking it to DaVinci yet. Hope some here have had success or know the workflow. I contacted Adobe about this before my last project as I was really fighting hard to get out of FCP, but even they hadn’t done anything at that point so was told to hold off.
