thanks for the input zip. i’m sending some video pieces to big screens at an event. it’s a girls debutant thing. at one point in the program the girls will be described as precious jewels and pearls. i want to show pearls in some way on the screens to enhance this segment of the events. i have still pictures of pearls in shell an such but i thought pearls flowing like a waterfall might be effective but any creative ideas are welcome.

    Thanks Charlie for the response
Sorry to make this confusing. I’m running an analog signal(about 200 feet) from my camera to my computer. I’m using video mixing software so i can mix in several clips and music off my hard drive. I connect to the LCD projector straight out of the computer. I’ve tested this using a really inexpensive analog to USB capture device. It works but… i wonder if there is something else out there to sit between the camera signal and the computer that does not require the installation of some conflictive and proprietary software that will capture that signal and allow me to tweak it if necessary. Ive put a signal booster at the camera end of this setup. I’m looking for something under 500.00 but the little device i’m using only cost 14 bucks on ebay:). Anything i send from my computer to LCD to screen is excellent. Just trying to work that live camera in.

The scan converter appears to work between the computer and the output. I’m looking for a solution between the camera and the computer then i can mix the live with other video files on my computer. I send the video out through my dual head video card. I just want a pure video intake with little or no proprietory software to install. If the scan converters do this, which one would you suggest.

I’ll look those up now. I use a Numark NUVJ midi video mixer. I tried a little video grabber to mix the live video but the quality was not good, so thanks for the info.

Thanks gentlemen for the responses. I needed an excuse the buy a cheap mini dv camcorder anyway. I need a tape capture and rewinder. 🙂
With black friday looming i hope to find a good deal on something with mic input. Am i correct to assume the quality of the audio will depend more on the quality of the mic and not the camera?

Thanks for the input gentlemen. Just the type of information I needed to sift through. The LED light panel is something I’ll look into as the event I’m shooting happens in December. I prefer to own my stuff but if renting is more practical I’ll look into.

I’m going to shoot a reception type event. Lots of couples dancing on a large dance floor. I’ll shoot this event with 3 cameras. One camera taking in the whole scene, one staionary at a general angle and one roving camera. The last time i did this in a dimly lit venue the roving camera video was grainy dark and practically unusable. I have lights with deflectors and i agree lights can ruin a mood but can i somehow light up the subjects on the floor as i move around to get good video.

Douglas, i appreciate the input very much. This is a lively discussion. I bought a NUVJ video mixer https://nuvj.arkaos.net/ only to find out my laptop did not have an onboard mixer so I had to add the external soundblaster sound card to make the NUVJ work correctly.
I want to do VO directly to the Vegas timeline. I have a small Beringer mixer. Should I remove the external sound card and go mixer to mic input using a top quality mic? I’ve been using a USB mic but I am now looking for a richer sound on my VO’s.
