Hello Kelly! I just today started using an art brush. I actually don’t want to create a single strand, but in stead a full head of hair. I want the strands to give it the depth & dimension that hair has. It’s gets very frustrating, I’ve been at this for some days now & still don’t feel comfortable with what I’ve created. I’ve tried using the gradient mesh tool with no success & several other methods. I do have them broken up into layers, so the dark tones are at the very bottom, then the mid tones on top of that & the highlights etc. I’ll post a pic of my current situation…

I’m really frustrated with this, I really want it to come out but nothing I’m doing is working. I’m also a visual learner so I need to see & “get it” before I feel I can apply you know. Nonetheless, any help would be greatly appreciated

The top is the original photo I shot.Bottom is an example I found online

I think what’s confusing me is the way they achieve the outlines. Like how would I go about it with the eyes for example, the mouth, shape of her face etc. without making it look bad? It sounds like such a simple task but i’m a visual person, I have to see it first then say ok I can do it lol.
But I’m going to try what you suggested Vincent & see what I come up with…

Thank you for your response Vincent, I appreciate it. LOL I only double posted because I know this could be achieved in either program so I thought if someone in one thread couldn’t assist then maybe in the other lol…

My problem I’m having is wrapping my mind around the more thicker lines. I know about the variable width tool inside of AI as well as the variable width options in the stroke panel but getting those super thick lines like that from the pen tool I’m not visualizing for some reason. Here’s what I have from using the pen tool in AI

This looks nothing like what I originally posted…

This works perfectly!! Thank you kindly Dan I greatly appreciate it! I have another question for you if you don’t mind. I have a double bass instrument I’d like to have vibrate to audio.
I was on your website that had the string vibration expression but it wasn’t to audio for one & when I tried it anyway it gave a weird jerky motion that was all over the place.

ok, thank you! the audio does actually FADE in & I want the action to happen right away, so I think I’m going to start with that.
    I appreciate the clarification also.

The multiplier only directs the amount of movement the y position will have. I’m asking what I would need to do in order to get it to start when I want it to, or sooner rather than later. The multiplier will not do that.
