Not sure there is an ‘easy/straightforward’ way to create this style in After Effects.

You could get something similar, but not as complex using the stroke effect and masks, but there was a LOT of work behind the scenes in those.
Either someone hand drawing them, or hand animating the masks and stroke to make it all work.

I believe you can only paste keyframes from one layer at a time and not multiple layers.

  • Not completely sure how camera projected stuff works in C4D, but I had an issue with images I brought in from Photoshop into C4D.

I was seeing stuff that shouldn’t be there.

I found out that if I unchecked the ’tile’ setting in the surface manager of the object it fixed it.

Maybe this will help, maybe not.

If you’re looking at only the first 20 seconds, then it’s not using a 3D model.

What you’re looking at there is actually a template you can probably purchase off After Effects template site.

If you’re wanting to make your own, then you can do it with a single high resolution image of a hand holding the tablet, then you’ll have to have the moving hand do the actions you need and then you can roto/key that out and composite over your layers for the replacement screen.

    Hope that helps.

    Greg, you are THE MAN!

That fixed it. Thanks for the tip.

  • OK, so here’s what ended up working for me.

I tried EVERYTHING I could think of.

Because the clip could be played of the SD card in XDCam Clip Browser, I thought I could export it using Clip Browser.

    No go.

I tried using the EX camera as my ‘USB’ reader as well.

    No go.

So, I hooked up my Dell 24″ monitor via USB to my MacBook Pro, and loaded the card and imported the clip into Premier Pro CC and proceeded to export a ProRes file to my desktop.

    That worked!

It sat there a while on the ‘bad’ parts, but it worked and I now have usable footage.

    Crazy, isn’t it?

  • I’ve tried all the above, and it ‘unmounts/ejects’ the SD Card and fails.

It’s hard to believe that I can play from Clip Browser just fine, but can’t copy.

  • Graphics cards like nVidia with CUDA will only speed up Ray Traced work in After Effects.

Also, RAM previews and renders depend a lot on what effects you are using, etc.

Some effects thread well, some don’t.

I’m currently in the market for a new computer myself.

After a LOT of research and phone conversations with Eric Bowen at ADK, I’ve come to the conclusion that a PC running Windows 7 or 8.1 and a i7 4930K over clocked to 4.5GHz with 64GB of ram will be the best thing for AE over more threads and a dual Xeon machine.

If something doesn’t thread well in AE, then the extra GHz will give it a bigger bump than throwing more threads at it.

    Hope this helps,

Walter, does that work with image sequences or just video files?
