What you need to do is use a couple of layers.

On one layer, you have your background KEYED out using Keylight or whatever.
On a layer just above that, you do your ROTO work on the shirt.

That should work well for you.

  • Yes,

However, if you have nested comps, you’ll have to change those individually.

For all regular image or solid layers, select all, go to the end of the comp and press ALT + Right Bracket or OPTION + Right Bracket.

All your layers will now be the length of the comp UNLESS you have nested comps or footage that isn’t long enough.

    Hope this helps.

Here’s one I’ve used with nice results.

  • First off, thanks Eric for reaching out. I just saw your message today, or I would have contacted you.

I finally figured out what was going on. After three days of trying everything I could think of to try.

I ended up installing OSX 10.9.2 on a new hard drive and ONLY installing AE and the plug-ins needed for my project.

    I still had the issue.

So, I ended up figuring out it was the Red Giant Effects suite that was causing my issue. I was using some of the tools, specifically Light Wrap.

However, here is the strange thing.

The problem would ONLY go away IF I uninstalled the Effects Suite from my system. If I removed the effect from the layer OR if I turned off the effect using the Fx switch, AE would still hang my system with the “beach ball.”

Then, I figured out one more interesting tidbit.

The problem would also go away WITH Effects Suite installed IF I unchecked the ‘render multiple frames’ option.

I’ve since contacted Red Giant and they are working on it. For now, I can use the Effects Suite IF I only do single frame rendering.

Hopefully this will help someone down the road if they run into the same issue.

The odd thing is that all of this would work fine on my MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.5.

    Very strange indeed.

One thing I always do is control the camera using a null object.

What I do is create a null, make it 3D, then parent the camera to the null.

Then, I move the null around and the camera, of course, follows.

You may try that as it might help you get the desired results.

    Hope this helps some.

  • Cineware works on all versions of C4D. I have Studio, and it works just fine.

  • Yeah, I have the latest everything. This is now happening in both CC and CS6.

Very frustrating as I have work to do!

  • Yes, you can extend them, you just need to figure out where they ‘live’ in the project and then go and edit the length of the COMP.

To do that, you need to bring up the comp you want to extend, then go into Comp Settings and change the length to what you want it to be.

Be aware however, that the template is already based on specific length COMPS and you may have a bit of modifying/editing to do to get it all to work properly.

Some of these templates are several layers deep, so it can be difficult to navigate, especially if you’re not too familiar with After Effects and how it all works.

    Hope this helps.

For After Effects, you’ll also want to have an SSD drive that’s separate from your boot drive on your Mac Pro for a cache drive.

Depending on how large your projects are, a render drive could be an SSD hooked up to a Thunderbolt dock like the Rocket Store one, or it could be a RAID setup as well.

For my AE and C4D projects, I use an all SSD system.

I have an SSD boot drive where my programs all reside.
An SSD for my cache and that’s all it’s for.
An SSD for my projects/render drive.

I have an older Mac Pro, 2010 and use an eSata dock that’s sata6 and it works really well.

    Hope this helps.
