So technically speaking an FCPX bug then?
There were bound to be one or two.

Well yes and no…usually when you “Open “Library” it presents you with a window and a list of drives and Libraries within those drive.
But with me nothing I had to locate them and then once I opened them the browser was kind of stuck. If I selected different Events or Libraries the clips on view did to reflect the Event or Library selected.
But all well after a reinstall of FCPX.

Out of interest tried having a look inside some of those backup folders in the library with show package contents.
Wtf!

Okay I did the same but it led to bad problems for me.
I could not browse different events. By default would not open all Libraries.

Plus Mark Spencer kindly introduced me to the concept of “Relink from camera archive”. Which is a very useful thing to have I reckon. But where is that command I cannot find it?

Well for sure I will be a snapshot fan. Interestingly Apple have included a default keyboard shortcut for duplicate but not for duplicate as snapshot (I have remapped).

It looks like it will work for me well. Two editors and one or two assistants.

Thanks I’m just wondering what options the 200 different editors have for personalising the clips they see in their bins with Avid without affecting the original media file logging notes?

I’ve been looking at snapshots as an alternative to the previously unrecommended (by most) workflow of selecting all and saving a cut as a compound clip.
Is that the general idea – instead of the previously rather tedious workflow of going back to projects and duplicating to back up a version?
Because no matter how many times I read the Help section I cannot quite get my ever diminishing brain around the difference in need between duplicate and duplicate as snapshot. If I do not duplicate as snapshot then all my compound clips in the duplicate get changedd when I make changes to the original and vice versa.
“Specifically, duplicating a project as a snapshot makes copies of the compound or multicam “parent” clips and embeds them in the project so that any changes to other instances of the clips do not affect the snapshot.”
Why would I ever want to NOT duplicate as snapshot?

What If I have already made a note in the column for that clip like “swoosh to CU – VG”?
Could I personalise it? Or do my log notes get transposes onto the data of the original clip with Avid?
Who gets to do the original log notes?
Because it seems with FCP X it does not matter if I rename the clip it does not affect its name of the original clip in the “Library”.
Hope that question is not banal.
