Thanks I have re read your original post d well written and accurate I am sure it is…
I just don’t understand I’m afraid…I’ll go and buy FCPX for dunces I guess!
“You could put the music in the primary, have your graphics choices as connected clips and setup the Audition as a connected clip.”
You could compound the graphics choices and audio and set those compounds as auditions.
You can also select the clips in the Event, make an Audition clip, and add that audition clip as a connected clip.”
Just one of these options (whichever is simplest in your view) in a brief 1,2,3 would be brilliantly helpful.

thanks..once in primary audition does not seem to want to move out of it. Guess I have to start from scratch…but cannot create audition in any “layer” other than v1…sorry primary storyline.
I though the whole point of auditions was to be able to try out different shots but it would seem logical that one might one the shots to be associated with the same piece of audio.
Thanks for your feedback and help

Obviously I am doing something wrong
I have audio (detached) on A1 (apologies for FCP 7 lingo) and the first clip I dropped into timeline in auction plays with the audio but when (in auction mode) I select either of the two other options it disappears…I know it’s something stupid I must be doing just cannot figure it…by the way not only does it not play but it also disappears from audio “track”.

OK thanks.
I really want to like it because I can see the beauty of it…
But I think I
ve nailed it…you extend right the gap before the clips and then they ALL move…if you try and shunt clips it doesn’t work but if there is a nice gap in front of them 9 to the left) then that works a that. It’s hard to learn to work in a completely different way.
The occasionally you see the light!
Takes me back to my early traumas eleven odd years ago!
I appreciate your feedback
Thanks

and if you have a fourth and fifth and sixth layer some ten minutes or more down the timeline you need to be able to make sure you are selecting EVERYTHING before you shunt the three layers you can see forwards down the timeline or they will remain in place. And that just messes it all up.
Without the “ttt/tt” (select all tracks forwards or backwards) this is impossible without having to zoom out first which, quite frankly, is a massive pain in the neck.
I have tried to get to grips with it but I jet don’t think this software cuts it for projects of any duration over the length of what you can see in the timeline.
Have you worked much with FCP7 or Premiere or Avid?

Thanks for this I’m all to aware of the shift click….but in a long timeline it’s a rather convoluted compared to FCP 7 “ttt”
Hopefully a shortcut they will add but along with snapping and now the dreaded “p” tool to deactivate magnetic timeline “select all tracks forward or back” is the tool I miss the most in FCPX. I would also like to. E able to perma enu toggle on and off the MT
Thanks for the feedback -
Well I would like to select everything in front of my played…including stuff I cannot see and move it forwards to create a bigger gap…or even just delete it all without having to zoom out of time line and physically “lasso” it all.
I have been using FCP since version 1.2 and understand I have to learn this software from scratch and am beginning to see how profound it is in certain ways but selecting everything in front of the timeline “ttt” was very useful and I am not sure FCPX has a replication for this very useful function.
If I am in a twenty minute timeline and want to delete everything from ten minutes forwards of the pay head how would I select only that which was to the right of the playhead?
Thanks for your help -
If you have a storyline or sequence 30 minutes long or more it’s really handy to be able to select everything forward of the timeline…I don’t see how gaps gets around the very handy t, tt, and ttt tool in FCP 7. Surely there must be a way???
