[Herb Sevush] “The original Thomas Crowne Affair made extensive use of split screens but was not nearly the first. “Indiscreet”, a Cary Grant romantic comedy used them in 1958, but I think the modern use of split screens, to add excitement and tension into a an action sequence probably began with John Frankenheimer’s “Grand Prix” in 1966.”
I’ve just got this feeling Hitchcock used them in a movie. Was it Vertigo? I can’t remember and may be mistaken.

Have always been a big fan of split screen technique, the master of which in the feature film domain was the great Robert Aldrich – who made a political thriller in the 70’s called “Twilight’s Last Gleaming” (unfortunately hard to find on DVD) which was the ultimate use of the technique.”
I think the Thomas Crowne Affair (1968) was one of the first movies to make great use of split screen. Previously more of a TV ‘Batman and Robin’ thing no? Great movie.

I think it works pretty well Aindreas. Out of interest how long to cut that piece? This is not a “ewww I could have done it quicker in FCPX” loaded question by the way. Just interested.

I cannot entirely agree with but understand the point you are making. If the option is not there you cannot make the choice whether to use it or not or whether it will come part of your operating style.
And part of the problem with shifting to X from any of the other NLE (only my personal opinion of course) is you have to make some changes to the way you work if you are going to reap the benefits. I didn’t use Auditions but decided to make myself do so and now they have become something I use all the time (albeit for best takes).
I don’t think I am alone in having an inclination to become set in my ways and Apple gave me a good old kick in the arse. If they had continued with FCP7 in parallel I never in a million years would have made the move to X if I am honest. At the time is was a little painful but it did me the world of good.

I know I’m straying off topic here but out of interest what would they be compared to FCP7?
I nearly went the Premiere route and got up to speed on basic level and it felt very like FCP7 to me.
