Is the frame rate the only difference between NTSC and PAL? Also,I’m shooting with an HVX200a so when you get above 24fps you lose the capability of recording audio, which I will need.

Thanks for the suggestion, Rafael. I’ve never used Cinema Tools, so maybe this will be a good excuse for my indoctrination.

I have had good success with the WD MyBook drives until recently. I took my HVX200a, my laptop and an external drive as my carry-on items for a recent shoot in Colorado. I shot for a day, and went to off-load my P2 cards to the WD drive. When I plugged in the drive, which contained lots of P2 backups, it kept wanting to format the drive. Since I needed the footage that it contained, I was in a bit of a pickle. Luckily, I had enough space on my laptop to dump off to. I went to the closest Wal-Mart and bought another drive. When I got back home, the drive seemed fine. About a month later it did the same thing. BEWARE!

I’m not sure if I will have access to the production company and their files. If so, no big deal as I will take several portable hard drives. I’m trying to plan for the unknown, and travel relatively light. Uhmm, aren’t there other differences besides frame rate, concerning shooting at 25 and not converting the PAL footage, as you suggest? I have the Nattress convertor plug-in, so I can easily convert the PAL files to NTSC..if I’m able to get the files, vs. having to import tape.

I’ve had similar problems with a Bogen 3066, which is made by Manfrotto. My fluid head had tilt issues. Anyway, I sent it off to Bogen repairs. Speedy service and reasonably priced. Their e-mail is: service@bogenimaging.com

I think I discovered the problem…the device control was set to the wrong type of Panasonic deck/frame rate. Doh!

I’m controlling the deck, and the source time in the capture window is close, but not the same. Once captured, the source timecode of the clip is very different. The manual says nothing about “vitual VTR.”

The drop down setting is RGB. I think I just discovered what the problem is. I’m using an AJA iO, digitizing component out of a DVC Pro deck. The capture preset got changed, so when I started looking at different presets the problem went away.

The settings are not showing the alpha, although it looks like it is. I drag a motion clip onto the timeline, over another video track and the problem occurs. I dragged a text clip from FCP over the same section of the video track and it looks good…until I add a drop shadow to the text, then I get the same problem.
