All audio is from the same device and all are 16bit/44.1KHz wav files.

OMF 2.0, include all audio tracks checked, consolidate media, all of the next checkboxes are unchecked. Audio: embedded in OMF.

Two stereo tracks, one is VO, the other is background sounds. All of the audio was recorded on a little digital audio recorder. It actually looks like it is importing just fine (that is, it looks the same as the audio in the project file he sent up). But only half of the audio actually plays.

I’m going the OMF route because MC5 won’t correctly reconnect the audio only files (via Batch import).

The “editor” is a film student who does not know editing or media management very well. So I cannot rule out that something is screwed up on his end. But I do have a review file that reflects what I should be seeing and hearing here if I could actually get things to link correctly.

Setting the bin display in the way you describe leaves the bin empty. If I then add sources to the bin display I can see the source files, but not if I turn off master clips.

Does this mean that the link between the subclips and the source has been broken somehow? Or is there a way to regenerate master clips/source links?

Is there a website or some part of the manual that systematically explains how AVID media management works?

OK, makes sense. Unfortunately, there are 100 audio files in the bin that have been sub-clipped and renamed from 58 source files on disk. Batch Import can’t auto-find the source clips and so I have to reconnect each bin file individually. A PITA.

Looking through the bin, I see that the audio source files on disk have a name from the audio bin TapeID column. Does this make any sense to you?

Ah, thanks. Though none the naming of the audio files in the audio bin matches the audio file names I was given as source. I thought that AVID had a database structure that tracked this sort of thing.

Am I out of luck?

No. I’m used to FCP relinking where I just point the reconnect dialog at the right folder and everything connects automatically. So, I am confused as to how to get AVID to see the correct source folders…

Avid Video Project I believe. I ask because I can export an EDL from a standalone FCP project (offline media) and then re-import the EDL into FCP and reconnect to media elsewhere. So, I wondered if AVID could do this as well.

>An EDL won’t cut it. You need to export an AAF, and then use Automatic Duck Pro Import to import that AAF into FCP…with media. Not doable without Automatic Duck.

I assumed that AVID could output Sony or CMX EDLs. This is a really basic tweak and finish project and the budget does not warrant purchasing Pro Import FCP (much less MC5). I haven’t received any other AVID based projects since 2003 and don’t anticipate any requests anytime soon. (Not that I wouldn’t mind checking out the new things in MC5.)

I see. As a work-around is there a way to link two mono tracks together so that if I add a levels keyframe to one it automatically adds it to the other? In other words, I have a standard two audio channel video clip with the same audio on each channel, that Premiere thinks is two individual mono audio tracks. I’d like to not have to duplicate audio level keyframing efforts – and exporting to Audition seems like a lot of extra work, especially if I were have a hundred clips of this sort…
