AVID imported OMF “loses” audio
I have been unable to reconnect (batch import) to a number of audio only files (no reel or timecode) on a project sent to me on hard drive (both systems are MC5).
So I had the other editor send an OMF file to me. Upon import about half the audio files do not play or are missing. I cannot find a way to successfully reconnect these either.
Any suggestions?

Try AAF instead of OMF

OMF will work fine. Choosing AAF instead makes no difference. I send OMF’s all the time and there’s no problem.
How has the editor supplied the OMF?
Have they chosen to embed the audio into the OMF? Linked to a media folder containing the files?
Need more info to help you.

OMF 2.0, include all audio tracks checked, consolidate media, all of the next checkboxes are unchecked. Audio: embedded in OMF.
Two stereo tracks, one is VO, the other is background sounds. All of the audio was recorded on a little digital audio recorder. It actually looks like it is importing just fine (that is, it looks the same as the audio in the project file he sent up). But only half of the audio actually plays.
I’m going the OMF route because MC5 won’t correctly reconnect the audio only files (via Batch import).
The “editor” is a film student who does not know editing or media management very well. So I cannot rule out that something is screwed up on his end. But I do have a review file that reflects what I should be seeing and hearing here if I could actually get things to link correctly.

Just checking, but what sample rate are the audio files at? It’s possible you may have a mixture and may not have your audio sample rate set to convert on the fly?

All audio is from the same device and all are 16bit/44.1KHz wav files.
