[Oliver Peters] “The annoying part is that it seemed to get worse after the 10.1 update and Yosemite.”

I’m using Mavericks. Do you think Mavericks is less problematic with regard to sluggishness?

I have a lot of plugins installed. But the main thing that sometimes makes things sluggish is having the inspector open on the audio tab. Closing the inspector immediately stops any sluggishness. It seems to be longer source video files that cause the sluggishness (like over an hour). Short video files are no problem.

This is true for a Mac Pro tube or a new rMBP.

Perhaps an indication I have been working too long?

    Sigh… slinks away…

  • [Noah Kadner] “Might you have accidentally hit a delete key while a keyword collection or event was selected?”

The event and smart/keyword collections are still present, just no clips when I click on the event or smart/keyword collections attached to the event.

Everything is still there if I select the library icon.

Perhaps some kind of partial Library corruption?

The ultimate master of the frame was Andrei Tarkovsky.

[Jeff Markgraf] “Anyone else feel like weighing in on “fixing” vs “enhancing” and whether they’re one and the same?”

Merely two different opinions. In practice, we are just editing and trying to tell a story the best we can with the material we are given. Later we may assign labels to what we have done; others may assign different labels. All philosophy (aka, explanation) is secondary to the experience it tries to describe.

The best NLE is the one a couple of inches behind the eyes and between the ears (to paraphrase the famous Photographic maxim). So I guess the debate is over. 🙂

[Daniel Frome] “Well in this case the joke is not that it can’t be real… it’s that it IS real 🙁 Instead of giving editors more ‘creativity’ with the supposed advantages of FCPX, they just expect to consolidate 4 jobs into 1 :/”

To be fair, this consolidation has been going on for a long time, and has nothing to do with FCPX. They could just have easily used Premiere or AVID as the editing base, with the same job requirements.

[Scott Witthaus] “And what is the debate again? I forgot….”

Something to do with “Custom Sift” if I recall correctly.
