you would connect your second monitor over hdmi on your t.station and your blackmagic minimonitor into thunderbolt port on the t.station
you would also need to buy hdmi to dvi cable for the second monitor. works just the same (digital) -

was just solving similar problem for my friends MacMini. There are two solutions:
1. thunderbolt dock with hdmi out (2nd monitor) and thunderbolt daisy chain. You also get some more usb ports and ethernet 🙂
https://www.caldigit.com/thunderboltstation/2. this solved our situation, but it is not 100% – Intensity Shuttle for USB 3.0
it is listed as not supported for mac os x, but believe it or not, we got it working (with beta drivers offered on bm site). It doesn’t work in Media Express, but it does work in Final Cut Pro 7.03. I cannot confirm fcpx though. You must try it (easy with notebook though) -
I used to have hickups in FCPX related to FCPX trying to authorize system.burn (service?). Note that I dont have original Apple DVD drive.
It is very uncommon but who knows, maybe it will be your case too.You can view Console if that is the case. (it says “com.apple.SecurityServer[19]: Succeeded authorizing right ‘system.burn’……….- last message repeated 107 times”). That many times causes the hiccup.
this is only relevant info i found on web: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4696673?start=15&tstart=0
solution for me is either disconecting the drive, removing manualy bluraypublishingserver, or having open toast all the time while editing which takes care of system authorizing DVD drive

I had a similar problem on my setup. It was caused by calibration profile from X-rite device. The problem lied in version of profile, which was default at version 4 but fcpx liked version 2.
It may or may not help you, maybe you dont have such controls in your software for spyder. What you can verify is your profile though. Choose one of the stock ones for your monitor and than check the appropriate applications. If this color shift vanishes, it was the color profile. If not, there must be something else going on.

[Jeff Kirkland] “My understanding was always that DVD doesn’t require any specific field order – upper first, lower first, progressive are all fine. “
I agree. (the standard spec. is UFF though, except for DV source)
[Jeff Kirkland] “Basically match the DVD field setting to the source file and keep the field order consistent throughout the DVD and all should be well.”
Exactly!

what will be the purpose of this DVD?
most of dvd players can do 25p, it really depends on player hw.
I would stay progressive as with proper settings on equipment you could get progresive output on LCD tv/projector/computer. with wrong settings player/tv/projector… would interlace your progressive footage, which isnt as much hit to quality as other way around (considering cheap electronics, i would assume all good electronics can do 25p). Only downside is very old players will not accept 25p.

PAL is upper field first except for DV codec if I’m not mistaken.

As i have a custom built PC, your mileage may vary compared to real mac (pro). Especially as i have high overclock on CPU Core, but i made some experiments with my previous graphic card, which was nvidia 560Ti and my current, which is 7970. I must point out the difference in OpenCL performance between these two graphics is huge.
It is very hard to generalize, as it really depends on the tasks you do. For example i tried to do same test as barefeats (https://www.barefeats.com/gpu7950c.html) with rain filter. I found out its very GPU heavy and upgrade from 560ti to 7970 was noticable (14 vs 9 seconds).
But i also put together a prores SD sequence with prores HD original footage. I did put some color correction, little ken burns, TC filter (and of course there was downconversion from HD material to SD sequence). Stuff I usually might/do in editor and let it export. The difference was 4:18 vs 3:51. I saw higher CPU utilization than in previous test too.
Conclusion: There is only so much GPU can process and the rest still goes to CPU. In the end the difference is not so big if you compare it to the price difference. If you have the money go for the best. If you dont, there is no need to get the best graphics.
All this assumes you do usual/normal editing in fcpx, i suspect if you are effects heavy, conclusion can be quite different.

That is exactly my experience. I have to move original files from the Events/Original Media folder before relinking, because as I relink to proxy, all the original media is lost (not even in thrash, gone) and links to proxy take their place.
in the end i will store both versions in separate locations outside of fcpx structure and relink manually, the same old Legacy way 🙂

thanks for the advice and information to both of you
Jeremy understood exactly what i had in mind.
Concerning the source material: I understand the quality of fcpx proxies really depend on the source, but either way, fullHD proxy is faster to work with and 3x smaller than regular prores. For me its optimal quality with optimal size. The projects i work on usually have about 80h of mixed XDCAM, AVCHD and GoPro h.264. Im working in legacy on these longform, fcpx for short projects and i prefer to store my original footage on external drive and creaty proxy for editing on internal drives. Im exploring to switch on longform to fcpx as you see.
When i tried fcpx proxy from Sony F3 XDCAM footage, i wasnt very satisfied with the result. Not even talking about the GoPro material.
As for monitoring i use prosumer plasma from Panasonic with Blackmagic Intensity to playback. I know what to expect of the quality and resolution i can get from this set (i dont really need best color accuracy, grading is done elsewhere).
Of course what Jeremy suggests works, just switch to original to judge, or directly edit with original media. Or maybe i will edit with proxies without TV and go original media for the final edit and TV monitoring. It is just a “wish” for me i guess to have a setting in preferences or easy hack to get FullHD proxies.
anyway, thanks for your time
