    I resolved the problem.

    The issue:
In AE, I had 1000 images and split them up into 4 pre-comps. I then did some scaling in on the pre-comp which is where the image degradation came into play.

    The solution:
For each pre-comp, I needed to click on the “Continuously Rasterize” option

    Thanks all!

Okay, I will try that. Thank you. Is this something I should do for video assets as well? Or does this only apply to still assets?

Separate question: When would I do a dynamic link? Under what circumstances?

I think there’s some confusion. According to Joe above, his timeline has a few clips with edit points from Premiere did not come into Resolve correctly and he found a solution. I am having the same problem. My timeline has a couple clips that are not the correct edit points from Premiere.

Here’s what Joe said in his post above:

[Joe Maurici] “So once you have your clips in Resolve, go into the Media Pool and Select your clips in Reels. I.e. Select all of your A001 clips. Then right click and select Clip Attributes. Click on Reel Name. Select ‘User Defined and put in ‘001’. Do the same for all your other reels ‘002’, ‘003’ etc”

This is what I’m having an issue with:
I am not able to do what Joe said to do because the options are all grayed out.

Here are my steps to recreate Joe’s solution:
    1. I have my xml from Premiere and I brought it into Resolve and I loaded it in Resolve.
    2. I went back to my Media Pool and selected my R3d files with A001 and I right clicked on it and selected Clip Attributes.
    3. A box opens up and I went to click on Reel Name, but the options are all grayed out and I can’t select them.

    My question:
Is there a way I can fix this so that I can create a User Defined reel name based on Joe’s suggested steps?

Using Joe’s method above, I am unable to manually change the Reel inside of Davinci. There were no speed changes in my footage.

I am trying your method, but in Resolve media pool, User Defined is grayed and not adjustable out when I click into Clip Attributes.

How do I lift this restriction?

  • [Walter Soyka] “How are you monitoring to gauge the mismatch?”

I just put them side by side on the same monitor. Is that what you mean?

[Walter Soyka] “They match up perfectly in AE — but QuickTime’s color and gamma handling is a disaster, so they may not display correctly there.”

I typically turn gamma correction from “Automatic” to “None” when exporting a quicktime. Is there a way I can do this for lossless files? and the psd frame grabs?

    Chris,

I’m doing something wrong and it’s probably right in front of my face. I took the project you gave me. Imported my sequence of images and selected Force Alphabetical Order. I then took the image sequence and dropped it into the apply timewarp effect composition. Then, I applied the timewarp effect to the layer. I then precomp’d the image sequence layer and hit play. same thing that’s been happening has continued to happen. Would it be helpful if I recorded a screencast for you to see what I’m doing? Thanks for all the help.

    Chris,

What does “Extend the precomp all the way” mean?

    1. playback is 24fps. each frame is imported (based on preferences) as 0:00:00:03:00 Base 30.
    2. Timewarp percentage is whatever the Default is.
    3. Composition Pixel size… if this is what I think it is, than the answer is: square pixels. frame size: 1920px x 1080px

    Thanks for the help

    Chris,

I thought I followed your steps exactly, but no luck. Here’s what I did:

    1. Took sequence assets and dropped into Composition 1.
    2. Right clicked on layer > Time > Time Stretch. Then, I doubled the time of the timeline
    3. Layer > Pre-compose > Leave all attributes in ‘EXT going to outside location…’
    4. On Composition 2, I went into Composition Settings and changed duration to be double the length
    5. Then, I applied time warp to layer in Composition 2
    6. Rendered and still lost half the images at the end

    Dave,

I went to After Effects > Preferences > Previews > and then unchecked “Enable OpenGL”

I restarted the program and tried again. No change.

Let me explain more. The images that I am losing are at then end of the sequence. So, if I render and play the sequence, I’m getting my time lapse, but when I add the timewarp, I lose from the last ~40-50% of the timeline. When I altered the speed from the default of 50 to about 20, I lost even more of the timeline.

I read awhile back that timewarp works because it “creates” images in between the two images that the effect is being applied to. Therefore instead of (for example) the original 10 images, there is now 10 plus 9 more (one additional that goes in between the 10). Is this true?

    Thoughts?
