  • Ha, that’s pretty much what I did. Explained why it was better and that getting Rid of green spill is pretty easy, so luckily they took my advice.

  • Thanks for the thoughts! They haven’t done the shoot yet, and they said they MIGHT be able to just shoot the real screen and not need to track it, I’m not holding my breath, and I’ll still need to do tracking onto some laptop screens which are a tiny bit easier.

I had originally told them to have a green screen on the phone, and the DP emailed back saying he likes white so theres no green cast off on the flesh tones. However your points about reflection and rotoscoping are good, and I will reiterate to them that, at least for the scenes where the finger interacts with the screen, it would make tracking/roto easier, though still do able if he insists on doing a white screen (so that they can have directional arrows for the model to follow), just may take a little longer to track. thanks for the help guys.

**per my recommendation they’ll shoot on green for the phones, thanks again for the help.

bringing this thread from the graveyard-Im trying to accomplish the “players through a banner” look also. Been playing with cloth settings for a while and cant seem to get it right. If any experts see this and would like to help me out with a couple of questions, it is much appreciated.

*the object bursting through banner is actually taller than the banner, so it is also kind of like the tape at the end of a race (object isnt hidden by banner).
1-I want the banner to tear along a “seam” so that it appears an object rips through it, right now a huge chunk of cloth sticks to the front of the moving object. is there a way to paint a vertex map to tell it to rip along a single row of points?

2-Is there a way to “freeze” movement of a static cloth, so that it has the appearance of a banner (some give to the fabric, some very tiny ripples)? I can’t figure out how to accomplish this with wind.

Had a lot of plug ins set up for CS5 that I’d rather not go through and have to reinstall 1 by 1. but looks like thats what I’ll have to do, thanks for the reply.

thanks for the help guys. i played with color finesse (how had i never heard of that tool before its amazing!) but wasnt happy with the results. the correcting was done on a flame machine with software that towers over finesse im sure. i sent a sample to my boss but suggested we get that clip done right by the finishing house.

February 1, 2011 at 3:29 pm in reply to: Quicktime Export will not obey bitrate settings

I just meant i like to compress into x264s with quicktime. Luckily, that was one of the first lessons i learned in AE, i never render as anything except HQ animation. i just like to use quicktime to export those files into x264s, since im watching playback in QT anyway. but using compressor worked great, when i need a strict bitrate i will use that. thanks for the help dave, i love perusing these forums during my render times, and have definitely learned a great deal, so thanks everyone!
