Couldn’t agree more. Said that, I gave up waiting on a proper caching a while ago . I guess you’re more persistent person or an eternal optimist:-)
Just a few posts about the same issue from the past, many including yours Sasha:-) Please note the quantity and how far this request dates back (almost 2.5 years).

If you continue reading the last thread, you can see not everyone even convinced we really need proper caching in Resolve:-)
Finally, I had been told by people in the know, that the reason why it’s difficult to implement the proper caching is the disc fragmentation, which I find odd. Isn’t FCPX does background caching? Yes, it will increase fragmentation, but I never found that to be a problem. Once a week before i go home I hit de-frag utility on my PC and in the morning it’s ready to go. Never had an issue. You can even set up a cron on a Mac to do that… -
Even though Resolve Lite technically limited to only one GPU, in reality it’s been two GPUs since, if I remember it correctly, V9, when you were able to choose “Use Display GPU for compute”. Since you can’t buy a single GPU MacPro any longer, BMD dropped the charade and just enabled both GPUs in Lite version. No need any longer for “Use Display GPU for compute”. You may even noticed, that it’s not even there anymore. So, no, the system was using booth GPUs.

January 15, 2014 at 1:36 am in reply to: best way to deal with edit revisions in Resolve? If it was shot RAW and metadata was adjusted during the grade, sadly, ColorTrace will not quite work. ColorTrace doesn’t transfer metadata adjustments, only the actual grade adjustments gets copied. On the other hand, using remote grades will work.

I believe you’re in the wrong forum Robert.
You’re talking about the crowd, that has no compunction upgrading their software in the middle of the project. You are talking about the crowd, that always upgrades the software the moment it comes out without testing it or an actual need to upgrade it. You’re talking about the crowd, that rather quickly posts a question, when a simple google search will suffuse or will contract a job, while spending all night watching tutorials on the use of software. Need I go on? As I said Robert, you’re in the wrong place, if you think normal upgrading cycles or clear business planning is in play here. People here will spend $10K and more on the nMP, just to get a single or low double digit increase in performance over the 2012 MP. All that while not many have clear idea on how to even recoup this mostly unneeded expenditure. But have no doubt Robert, spend they will! -
I have seen it happens many times, when I use XML from Premiere. As I verify my conform, the video, not audio would slip a frame every 30: or so. If I leave it as is, on the roundtrip, the video would line up back in Premiere perfectly, but if I try to fix the slippage in resolve, back in Premiere it would then be slipped the wrong way (one frame too short). So, I just adjust the offset by a frame in resolve to get the offline to agree with conform. It sure looks like 23.98 vs 24.

“Maybe, maybe not.
The folks with expansion chassis are mostly folks working on movies, etc. They (and me) have a lot of money and workflow invested in what they have. I betting most of those folks will wait many months or even years before upgrading. Can the AMD GPU’s really do what multiple Nvidias are currently capable of in many pro apps? How many folks can afford to replace SAS arrays and AJA cards with Thunderbolt devices in this economy and race to the bottom pricing for production/postproduction services?
But I am just a notalentwannabe so what do I know?”
Robert A. OberWell, I guess your sage advice in not so… sagie:-)
The answer to your opinion is right underneath your post… -
Just wait a little. All those used PCI expansion chassis will become available, when users decide to move onto the nMP.

Haha, welcome to the new world of OFX, temporal noise reduction, flow motion etc. All these newfound capabilities are placing an inordinate hardware requirements on your system. Doing all that in real time is not trivial, especially in a room full of clients asking you why is the playback so awful. BMD slapped these new capabilities without doing proper preparatory foundational work, mainly proper disk caching, allowing you to easily perform the same tasks with much lesser hardware. Until BMD does that, everyone will continue to suffer…

Have you reconfirmed the timeline from the new bin?
