The movie is an mp4, 640×480. I’m exporting from AE in the same format, 640×480 as a quicktime animation which I import into FCP with an alpha layer. The intro and extro animation that I did, with the same format but now alpha, worked fine and are as crisp as can be…

Thanks, that helps a ton. I’ll just animate a map for now and when I get time I’ll go into PS and draw something more appropriate. I’ll try to remember the sun rising in the East, too.

To follow up on this topic…

I’ve imported AI files into After Effects CS3 (they are very basic line drawings of maps with a calligraphic brush stroke), and I’m using a camera to zoom into the files quite a bit. My naive expectation is that since it is vector art the quality should remain perfect regardless of how far I zoom in with my camera. What happens is that the stokes become pixilated as if they were not vector art.

Do I have to import scaled-up versions of the maps into AE and somehow switch to them as I zoom in, or is there a more elegant way to do it?

I’m now wondering what the difference is between “straight (unmatted)” and “premultiplied (matted).” What do they do and in the future how will I know which to choose?
