Creating a spinning globe?

make a layer in a AE comp that’s an image of the world map

select the layer, then apply effects > perspective > CC Sphere

in the effect’s controls, animate Y rotation

sphere requires a source layer that is a 2×1 ratio. It wraps perfectly, nothing else does.

If you’re doing a globe, for crying out loud, be sure you set the rotation properly so the sun rises in th east.

Yep, what others said CC world is what you want. Only reason I’m here is too throw out the Nasa Earth Maps link, which is a great source for your realistic earth globe or a good starting point for tracing your own stylised version.

(Tip – if you want a seamless globe use the Offset filter in photoshop and edit the sea join so it’s invisible. Faster, cheaper and just as cool as a trip to space(sort of))

Thanks, that helps a ton. I’ll just animate a map for now and when I get time I’ll go into PS and draw something more appropriate. I’ll try to remember the sun rising in the East, too.

Hi

I used CC Sphere to create a globe, using a texture designed for a sphere. However, I can see a small white join line and can’t find a way to get rid of it (even if I add pixels to the texture itself)

Any suggestions?
